Video Games Gear Up for Virtual Simulators

Posted September 01, 2011 7:50 AM

With the video game generation having matured and entered the workforce, video game-like simulators are the preferred trainer of choice. From "Guitar Hero" crane operating simulators to earth moving machines, today's video-game inspired simulators are resulting in tomorrow's operator certifications. Simulators not only take the "risk" out of high-risk equipment, they make learning fun for the new generation of young adults. What do you think about their inclusion in the training curriculum?

Simulators are a great teaching tool but real experience on a real machine should still be required to get an operators certificate. I do have one concern though. After mastering what ever it was that I was simulating I always had to start trying the stunts. Can you fly a B52 under the golden gate bridge? I hope a simulator trained machine operator will not try to repeat his successful simulated stunts on the real machine.
