Savvy Savers?

Posted September 08, 2011 7:00 AM

The recession may be officially over, but the economy is still in painful recovery, with housing value troubles and a five-year long plunge in individual net worth. It has folks seeking ways to save. Reports indicate buying generic brands is up, as is brown-bagging it for work lunches, and subscription cancellations. If you're trimming back, too, got tips on other "easy" ways to save?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Motion Control Components, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Motion Control Components today.

Turn the lights off and hang upside-down in the dark!

The recession is over?.......................... I never got the memo.

Besides coupons....planning your shopping trips to be on a loop once a week. Keeping unused lights off when the room isn't occupied. Setback thermostats...

Don't buy what you want....buy what you need.

If you have single handle faucets, instruct everyone in the house that when the handle is in the middle and "looks nice" that way, they are using both cold and hot water even when they only need cold. Each day, gallons of cold make-up water enter the heater and the hot water that exits usually just sits in the pipes and cools off at the same time as the make-up water is heated. Codes should be changed to banish single handle faucets in the same way as incandescent bulbs will eventually disappear in the name of energy conservation.

And to what do you attribute larger class sizes and tuitions?

Make the next vehicle you own a manual instead of an automatic.

A. More fuel efficient.

B. More fun to drive

I have never owned a vehicle with an automatic gear box, My present method of transport is an 1978 MG roadster coupe, it is the best vehicle that I have ever driven!
