While Allan Turing may possibly be the modern father of computing, he certainly isn't the first to design a computer. Besides the ancient abacus and some other simple mechanical 'calculators', perhaps the first true mechanical computer of any significant ability belongs to Leonard DaVinci. While Leonardo could not build an actual working model due to technical limitations of the time, a working prototype of his design was recently built a few years ago and it worked just as Leonardo had designed it. So it may be more accurate to call Leonardo the 'father of computing' over 500 hundred years ago.

Turing would be one reasonable candidate among several. I'll put in a word for Charles Babbage, too.

Ats a shame that Alan Turing's full name is seldome used......his initials were actually A.M.T.
