The Mazda6 will join the growing ranks of optionally diesel-equipped
cars available in the US, and the production version was unveiled
yesterday at the LA Auto Show. The first run of diesel 6's will be
powered by Mazda's 2.5L Skyactiv turbodiesel, which generates 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. Then
halfway through the first year, that powerplant will be joined by the
somewhat less powerful Euro-spec 2.2L turbodiesel. Both versions will be
available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. As owner
of a car powered by Mazda's last attempt at a US-market diesel, which incidentally didn't age so well, I still can't help but be stoked.
