Is Warp Speed Possible?

Posted May 21, 2013 10:41 AM

From CBC | Technology & Science News:

Star Trek Into Darkness hit the big screen this week, taking moviegoers back to a science fiction universe where starships are capable of warp speed, crossing light years of interstellar space in minutes. But is that scientifically possible? And if so, how?

Here's a complete take-down of the latest 'Star Trek' movie. (Title in quotes to indicate it's only sort-of a Star Trek movie.) MANY spoilers - but you might want to read it anyway to save yourself the pain, and cost, of going to see the movie in a theater.

I swear, after this I'll never go see a J J Abrams movie, ever. I'm glad I read this review. (Note: some strong language here.)

The movie wasn't that bad when considered as a stand alone movie for some mindless entertainment with a slight re-imagining of previous Star Trek episodes in a loose Star Trek universe concept. Mind you I had a free ticket so...

I would liken it to Episode 1-3 of the newer Star Wars. Entertaining but.......

Seriously, why did they steal the holy scroll other than to create a chase scene for the start of the movie? That made no sense AND was contradictory to the rest of the story and Star Trek in general.

Take my advice, go buy the original Star Trek 2 instead of this remake.

So what you're are saying When you see 'Star Trek, into the Darkness' one would enjoy it, if you let your mind go blank.

Good deal for me! After countless hours of watching my wifes reality competition show drivel I can go mentally bank for hours at a time at will!

In a way it's rather like spending my days back in high school.

Show up, tune out, turn off, and set the timer. Nothin's gettin in or out.

Just as long as you can eventually snap back to reality, my luck my snapper would break and I be stuck watching Gilligan's Island and humming its tune.

Still beats watching Dancing with the stars, american idol, and what ever ridiculously overblown crime drama that comes on every night.

My wife wants to dance and sing in front of the world but is too scared to go out in public.

Oh great! A star trek movie I don't want to see. I never expected that.

Warp speed can be defined as the speed with which Star Trek fans will turn on the creators of this movie....x2 the next one....x3 if they make it a trilogy....
