'Unlikely'? You seem to think there's a remote possibility. I'd say no way.

The article is written as if cheerful is synonymous with optimistic, and depressed with pessimistic, which I don't think is the case.

The British are particularly good at being cheerfully pessimistic.

I always expect the worse outcome so there is hardly any surprises. This in turn makes me happy about everything that doesnt have the bad end.

Needless to say that I have a good imagination what can go wrong and the "better" the picture the happier I am.

Does that make me a pessimist or an optimist?

.

PS I am not too optimistic about the answer!

People say i am a pessimist, but i consider myself a realist, it is all a matter of perception i guess.

My wife is the eternal optimist and I'm the exact opposite so we are a perfect match! Probably explains 45 years of our being married to each other!

Pessimism or optimism shouldn't be equated with "personality". The Melancholy, "C", Beaver types may be more prone to be pessimistic because of their cautious tendancy but it's not a "given" for that type.

P or O is more of a persons developed view of life based upon emotional responses to experiences, input in their thinking, the people they associate with often. A persons state of mind, which includes emotiona, social and mental intelligence, experience and past perspective.
