Data Acquisition Hits the Road

Posted February 12, 2014 1:00 PM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

General Motors recently unveiled a performance data recorder (PDR) that is included with the 2015 Corvette Stingray. The PDR uses telemetry technology developed by British motorsports company Cosworth to record a wide variety of performance and engine data, which is synchronized with high-definition video. An in-cockpit microphone supplies audio to accompany the video. The telemetry data includes vehicle position (five position fixes are recorder per second by a dedicated GPS receiver), transmission gear selection, engine RPM, steering wheel angle, and braking force. Data and video are stored on an SD card in the vehicle's glove box.
