Big Data Could Yield Big Revenue

Posted October 18, 2015 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

Data is becoming a key strategic asset in the manufacturing sector, but many companies are throwing it away. According to reports, only 1% of all data gathered on an oil rig actually reaches decision makers, thanks to connectivity limitations. A four-year-old company called Sight Machine, however, aims to change that trend with its machine manufacturing analytics platform, which captures data from a variety of sources, including PLCs, sensors, and barcodes.Automation World shares how and why this new approach to data acquisition and analysis could result in more than $3.7 trillion in new revenue for manufacturing by 2025.

"...in more than $3.7 trillion in new revenue for manufacturing"

For who? The way the rest of the world (China and Russia and who knows who else) are hacking US companies and government agencies the data will be gathered by competitors (enemies?) and used to undercut manufacturing resulting in a loss of revenue for U.S. and a gain for them.

Big deal. If the little brains in mis-management can't interpret the data, it is useless data. And, NO, it is not because of connectivity issues (unless you are talking about the connectivity issues between earlobes).

Got 14 years worth of data that nobody is paying any attention to except me.
