Wake Up and Use the Robots

Posted June 28, 2014 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

A majority of UK manufacturers polled in a recent survey said they do not use robots; nearly a third of those indicated they were either low volume producers or they relied on bespoke (custom) processes. A spokesman for ABB, who commissioned the survey, attributes this response in part to the early adoption of robots by the automotive industry, promoting the idea that robots are only useful in mass production. ABB hopes to convince these companies that an initial capital outlay for automation will lead to increased profits in the long term.
