Wireless Standard Gets Approved

Posted November 09, 2014 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

The ISA100 Wireless Systems for Industrial Automation: Process Control and Related Applications has received unanimous approval from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The goal of the standard is to provide reliable and secure wireless operation for monitoring, alerting, supervisory control, open loop control, and closed loop control in manufacturing applications. The standard will define implementation procedures of wireless technology, especially with regard to field devices. By the end of the year, IEC will publish the standard as IEC 62734.

I wonder how would they will make all the radio frequency signals safe and secure and free from EMI distortion.

If the bad guy knows the encryption or platform, the hell with its operation it will be surely compromised.

First of all, the standard has yet to be published, and they devices will all be encrypted into the internal network, with only one basic channel out-going to link up to the master control block of the PLC/HMI, (at least that is what I read somewhere about a month ago). Several devices will be able to converse with the local transmitter that relays data to the control room. Each one has a unique code that cross-talk of channels is basicially impossible.
