E-dynamic Crane Climbs Mountains

Posted June 27, 2015 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

Construction of Italy's new Mont Blanc cable-car system might have initially seemed entirely out of reach. But with employment of a unique e-dynamic crane equipped with jib and winch for the mountainous job, work is proceeding according to schedule. Able to perform in challenging weather conditions at more than 3,450 m above sea level, including gale force winds surpassing 70 mph, the crane delivers materials and assists in concrete base and metal tower installation. According to experts in charge of the $113 million project slated for completion in June 2015, the new crane adjusts to the rugged territory and the project's specific needs, rather than the other way round.

Please, folks, the project is for a ropeway or overhead tramway, not a cable car. A cable car is a ground vehicle propelled by a moving rope in a trench under the ground, as in San Francisco for example.A ropeway is suspended above the ground from cables, and also cable driven - either by the same cable or a separate one.
