A CR4 Scavenger Hunt

Posted April 01, 2016 8:00 AM
Pathfinder Tags: april fools day scavenger hunt

It's April Fools' Day, it's Friday - what more of an excuse do you need for a distraction?

Here is a five-question scavenger hunt for you. If you are a pro at using CR4 it shouldn't be all that difficult. And if you are a new or inexperienced member of the community, you will learn more about how to use the site.

The answer to each question will lead you to the next question. At the end you will find your "prize." Work together to find it!

#1 CR4 is where Chevy Cavaliers go to die. The forum thread count for "Cavalier" is how high?

Hint - Use search. This puzzle was created on March 29, so don't count any threads created after that time.

#2 The count of Cavalier threads is significant; it corresponds to a thread URL that will lead you to your next clue as well.

Hint - As of earlier this week, we were up to 106,702 forum threads on CR4. Each thread's ID number is included in its URL.

#3 The OP (it wasn't me) of that thread writes for two blogs. Find the one that has gone to the dogs.

Hint - Blogs are listed in a user's profile.

#4 Summer is coming and the ocean is fun. Find the "Recent Blog Entry" subject that's attracted by chum.

Hint - Each blog has a list of recent blog entries along the right side.

#5 The author's a man; he's also a fan. This is the end of my prose. Find the prize in the group forum where anything goes.

Note: If you find the answer by cheating or taking the easy path, don't ruin the surprise for others until at least one person has solved it all the way through! (You can talk about it at the location of the prize until then.) I'll post the answers on Monday.

I searched and got 604 threads where "Cavalier" was in the title (at least I think I did).

The rest of it, I ran out of time. Boss summons me.

You had the right idea. I restricted the results a little differently. I looked for forum threads that had "cavalier" mentioned anywhere, not just in the title.

I searched only the "General" section as well

I searched and got either 173 or 169. Couldn't come up with 170. Nice Scavenger Hunt though. Once I used 170, found my way to the correct result.

That's odd. This is the search I used: http://cr4.globalspec.com/search/sitesearch?do=show&srchobjs=t&order=asc&sort=createdate&query=cavalier&Pg=1

3 pages of 50 results each, plus a fourth page with 20 results.

When I put "Cavalier" into the community search term at the page header, I get a good ten pages worth of "stuff". I do not think these are separate threads, but could include individual posts where the word is mentioned?

Your assumption is correct. The scavenger hunt question asked how many forum threads. At the bottom of the search results page is a filter where you can choose to display only the forum threads - and exclude the individual comments.

I do not have one clue how to find that page.

The box in the screen shot is found at the bottom of any search results page.

Enter your search terms into the box in the header and click go. Then scroll to the bottom and you will see the options.

When I hover over the "first" on top right of search results (blue shaded), I still come up with 169 matches total. Maybe something changed since the 1st. I did the search a few days after.

Hope you will do another scavenger hunt or something similar. Enjoyed the challenge and learned about different searches you can do other than the basic one.

Yes, thanks both LakeGrl and SavvyExacta for providing some relief to a few boring days.

If people enjoyed it, I'm happy to do it again! This was great feedback for me to incorporate next time. I had a lot of fun creating it!
