Common Core Math.

12 Feet = 15 Feet = 12 Feet.

I don't understand, this should've worked.

"See, son, this is a lesson in tolerances. You can never measure anything perfectly accurately, so you get 'close enough' and mark how far you believe you're off by. Let's say that the tolerance in measuring bridge and trailer heights is plus or minus two feet. That means a 12 foot bridge is actually somewhere 10 and 14 feet, and a 15 foot trailer is between 13 and 17 feet. Now a 13 foot trailer can fit under a 14 foot bridge, so we would say the two are within tolerance' of each other. That's why we tried driving under the bridge."

"Okay, Dad, but why are the drivers calling us nasty names?"

"That, son, is a lesson in INtolerance."

Yup, slide rules that were accurate to three decimal places.

Student (working out part of a complex equation using a slide rule): "Two times three comes out to five point nine nine nine ... eh, just make it six."

You know that happened at least once in a Calculus II class, so knee-deep in the equations they're not seeing the easy parts anymore.

Normally it is called as "interference fit", and I agree if done purposedly With useful intentions...like tight fitting a shaft onto roller bearings!

In this scenario, it was a dangerously, stupid mistake!

According to the theory of relativity, as bodies approach the speed of light (C), they get longer, shorter and narrower. We only needed .6C, but didn't quite make it.

This happens all the time in downtown Spokane, Washington. We have numerous railroad viaducts that were built 11' to 11' 6". Some of them have been scooped but not all of them. You can see the footings. The truckers are supposed to know which one to avoid but sometimes they forget or don't pay attention to the warning signs.

My ex brother-in-law, who drove dump truck for a construction company, left the job site with the box up.

Later that same week, as he was driving to the worksite with a full load of gravel, as he put it, 'somehow, the dump box started raising" ? as he was driving down the road. he's not working there anymore.
