Integrated product offerings is the biggest trend in the automation and motion control industry today. When the first integrated servos — motors and controllers combined into one package — were introduced in the late 1990s, many design engineers were unconvinced of the concept, citing reliability concerns. But slowly the electrical heat and noise issues were dissipated. The technology is now headed for mainstream applications, where lower cost solutions, smaller footprint products, and reduced systems engineering content are paramount. As these products illustrate, the integrated motion control trend is moving towards greater heights, with more power, performance, larger numbers of axes, and scalable systems as the goal.
