Software Vendor Reads Your Mind

Posted November 21, 2007 6:00 AM

It sounds like an April Fool's prank or something out of science fiction, but the New Scientist Web site reports that Microsoft wants to determine response to their software by mining information from users' brains. Specifically, they would like to use results filtered from electro-encephalograph (EEG) data to make interfaces more transparent. The article includes a link to Microsoft's patent application.

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Engineering Management, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Engineering Management today.

Get the basics right first guys - what does it matter if the software optimises its pleasure coefficient occasionally if it's general inconsistency and susceptibility to unauthorised intrusion mean it annoys the .... out of you because it is not really fit for purpose in the first instance?
