Sensor Detects Minuscule Magnetics

Posted December 13, 2007 8:20 AM

NIST recently demonstrated a tiny infrared laser-based sensor — the size of a grain of rice — capable of measuring magnetic fields eight orders of magnitude smaller than the earth's magnetic field. The sensor has promising heart and brain monitoring applications, since it detects magnetism from electric currents in these organs.

An interesting article, thank you.

Of course the pigeons have been able to detect and navigate by magnetic nano detectors in their brains, for thousands of years.

Perhaps one day, we shall be able to fully understand how they do it.

Kind Regards...

According to some research results they have particles of an iron based stuff in regions where nervs have terminals. It is yet not clear if the sensing is mechanical or chemical.
