Mobiles Linked To Disturbed Sleep

Posted January 21, 2008 7:56 AM

From BBC News | Technology | World Edition:

Using a mobile phone before going to bed could stop you getting a decent night's sleep, research suggests. The study, funded by mobile phone companies, suggests radiation from the handset can cause insomnia, headaches and confusion. It may also cut our amount of deep sleep - interfering with the body's ability to refresh itself. The study was carried out by Sweden's Karolinska Institute and Wayne State University in the US. Funded by the Mobile Manufacturers Forum, the scientists studied 35 men and 36 women aged between 18 and 45. Some were exposed to radiation equivalent to that received when using a mobile phone, others were placed in the same conditions, but given only "sham" exposure. Those exposed to radiation took longer to enter the first of the deeper stages of sleep, and spent less time in the deepest one. The scientists concluded: "The study indicates that during laboratory exposure to 884 MHz wireless signals components of sleep believed to be important for recovery from daily wear and tear are adversely affected."

Remember that use of mobile phones raises your Cancer chances by a factor of 7.

It also results in damaged neurones, and has been linked to the early onset of "Alzheimer-like" symptoms.

We only get the single travel trip through this Earth, better to make the most of it.

I only ever use a cellphone for emergency call-out, and do wish that others minimise their own bodily damage, by doing the same.

After all, we did OK for many years, without being immediately on-call at a second's notice 24/7/365+.

Kind Regards....

<...Using a mobile phone before going to bed could stop you getting a decent night's sleep...>

So why do so few users make use of the 'off' switch?

I use the 'ignore' switch I had installed in my head...

It took a clinical study to demonstrate this? Well, I guess there are those who demand proof. For me, empirical evidence is usually sufficient. I applaud those who recognize the 'off' switch when they see it, and Hellcat's intracranial ignore switch could prove quite useful for many other purposes. You GO, Hellcat!

This subject matter is famous for all kind of claims second only to MAN_MADE global warming (oh, there is WEATHER, in its infinite variety, but....). Experiments with no controls of any kind. Proves(!?!), that cell phone use causes the disappearance of the bees - would I kid you with such an important subject? Proves, that 90% of anything published is plain horse puckey.

If anyone is concerned about the radio on the cellphone (I am not at all), clip the damn thing over your gluteus maximus, where it can heat only adipose tissue with no further consequences, and use a wired or wireless earpiece. For checking polysyllabic words Wikipedia is excellent.

LOL!

"Proves, that 90% of anything published is plain horse puckey."

And as has been famously stated, 47% of all statistics (including this one) published on the Internet are made up on the spot. Gotta admire critical thinking!

And I was wondering where all of these guys had gone...
