Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Net

The current government is fond of making bold statements without having a clue about how to achieve the results. How is the UK administration going to control the content of a web site based in China or Russia?

Incidentally, it seems that the government has been actively changing entries in online sites like Wikipedia to improve their own image.

Just what we need! an internet special police task farce! i agree that this can not be controlled. By the time objectionable pages are found the content has beeen copied thousands of times and redistrubited. Governments should stick to running lotteries and filling pot holes. We have parents that should be watching what their kids look at and adults should be free to look at what they want.

if you won't mind a kibutz from across the pond, I'd say to recommend that they take a long look at how successful China's government has been at controlling internet content... they can pass laws about how long you've been sitting at your keyboard, but, at least from a distance of several thousand miles, it doesn't appear that they've had much success regarding available content.

In July, I was in China with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony. We intended to send back pictures real time to our web site, but we were not allowed to access it. I think that is a little bit ridiculous. We did manage to get the pictures back to the US by E-mailing them to someone, who put them on the web site for us.

Forget government intervention with the net!!!!!

Thought police. Information is power, control of information forced the web to be successful, now they want the information back in the bottle. Heaven forbid we should become responsible on our own, what would we need them for?

The internet is the biggest and most widely used source of information we know, so why would the gorvenment want to restrict the information we want to use. We dont like infringing on people rights as in the right of free speech or the right to an education. Many of todays products would not have been possible if not for information found over the internet. When people need to source information in their jobs or even home projects do they not consult the internet and also people over the internet for example: CR4? Now the government wants to put a choke hold on what information they dont want us to read. Innovation comes from knowledge and the biggest source of this knowledge is the internet.
