Demand for Europe Space Rethink

Posted April 16, 2008 8:39 AM

From BBC News | Science/Nature | UK Edition:

Europe should give up on sending men and women into space and concentrate on unmanned projects, according to one of the world's leading astronomers. The future lies in using advanced robotics, miniaturisation and fabrication, said Lord Martin Rees, the president of the Royal Society. Europe "should try and get a world lead in unmanned exploration", he said. Spending funds on manned spaceflights "was not a very good use of money", that should be left to the US, he said.

Yes, I concur entirely.

It's always best if you can persuade others to pay for development.

Kind Regards....

Yes, Yes, Yes!

manned spaceflight is intended for politicians to get honours and recognition,

unmanned spaceflight gets the real results.

None of the useful satellites or spaceprobes need a pilot nor does it benefit from human beings nearby: outgassing is bad for optical and other equipment.

There are some holy cows existing in this and other fields that seeminingly is goverbned by science and calculation.

How can we convince the politicians?

Hello RHABE

<"How can we convince the politicians?">

They can only be convinced, if you give them favours and money, lots of both in unmarked envelopes.

Kind Regards....

Good, takes them out of the competition. There is nothing that can investigate, self-program on the spot and generally do the kind of exploration that a man can. Let them turn inward and navel gaze.

Ahhh, but by sending manned missions, more and more is learned about how to keep man himself in space, and, hopefully, on other planets. This should be a serious goal. Someday, this planet WILL shake man off like a bad case of fleas. The only hope in that circumstance, for the continuation of the race, is the colonization of other planets/starsystems.

Now, should the human race be perpetuated? That is a good question......
