Life on Mars?

Posted May 30, 2008 11:35 AM by mavella

Scientists could be within a robotic arm's reach of the answer to this theory-provoking question with a little help from micromotors equipped with DSP-supported intelligent positioning controllers.

NASA's Phoenix Lander, which touched down on the unexplored polar region of Mars three days ago, is relying on Switzerland-based Maxon Motor's Easy to use POSitioning System (EPOS) controllers to maneuver the probe's motors, robot arms, turrets, and other moving elements in real time.

Have you ever tried to find a needle in a haystack.................burn down the haystack.................still can't find it............proabably wasn't there in the first place.

Sorry my negativity is absolutely appalling................and one could be sure the millions of dollars spent on this project, could have been spent far more wisely........here on earth!!!!!

.........or doesn't one have problems in the USA??????

Yes! We could have used that money to fund the war for 6 more minutes.

We need to keep some robos ready, for finding the life on earth, (if some life remains there), after the wars being forced by Presidents of America on all communities on the earth (including Americans)

Hi bhankiii,

Yes you are probably right with the statement on funding the war in Iraq.

However, I put it too you another way.................the great 'merican way..........has no homeless or starving people there............it must be terrific...........if I get to Canada next year, for a holiday, I must come and see it ( that is the US of A).

You will have to pardon my sarcasm.............even without a war to "feed".........would things be any different............quite possibly.......... NOT...... and that goes for all countries (including Australia).............our illustrious leaders would find other things to spend (or squander) money on.

Yes, "ALL MEN ARE EQUAL" the only problem is...............some are more equal than others!!!!!!

In one respect, you are right Mobi. But please remember that whatever developments we are enjoying in recent years (including one, using which we are communicating on CR4), are outcomes of the space hungriness

Please forgive me for a little sarcasm here, but I would not bother looking for life on Mars. By all indications thus far it would have been long extinct, or still too far in the distant future to wait on. What would we learn from it anyway? That the earth will one day occupy the place where Mars is now? If that is the case, then we are spinning our wheels worring about global warming then aren't we? Someone else will have to worry about that one because I will have long since turned to dust by then anyway.

As to the funding of the war in Iraq for another 6 minutes with what was spent on the rover? I am not going to worry about that either. The war will be over in 7 months. The Democrats are going to take the White House back in November and they will end the war the very first day in office. They will have what they want most. Controll of the Presidency, the House and the Senate. That way all will be right with the world. Global warming will be stopped in the first 100 days of the new administration, and all of their special interest groups will get their turn at being favored and get rewarded for all the money that they contributed to the election. No more Bush administration to mess things up for them. I mean after all they have made such progress in the last two years after promising everybody "Change" and "We are going to put an end to the war".

Two years has past and nothing has changed and nothing will change except the name on the door. Don't look for miracles in 09'. Just most unkept promises. But you keep on banging the drum, someone will listen. Plant trees instead. That way at least someone is making a difference for "change"
