How Do You Protect Your Success?

Posted June 17, 2008 8:31 AM

Market dominance in technology industries is extremely difficult to maintain. If Microsoft can't pass the torch from one generation to the next and stay on top, what chance is there for the rest of us? Yet avoiding the pitfalls experienced by fallen market leaders can at the very least help ensure job security. How will you keep your technological edge in your particular niche? What steps is your company taking to avoid being left behind by startups in places like Silicon Valley? By emerging technology giants in faraway places like India and China?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Engineering Management, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Engineering Management today.

I guess I'm in a relatively safe industry - heavy (industrial/commercial) construction. Until such time as the economy falters to the point where "we" are no longer building things, my job security should remain intact. After all, construction here can't very well be outsourced to any given there... So as long as I stay current in my job skillset, there should be no worries, correct?

Dear Friend.

You are RIGHT. Nobody is safe in this world with piracy going out in every field.

I personally had bad experience in my past life. It really hurts. But the moral of the story is have a large heart, be more innovative, keep on progressing as every technology or product has a scope for further development. Do not waste your time repenting.

Have a nice day

I hate to say it but I will. In the USA we have some people who will not get out of the way and let technology savy people make change happen. They hold tight control on money, labs and research funding. Like doctors who will not retire for greed or what ever reason prevent pateints from getting good care trapping them in his care and keeping young doctors out who would provide better and more compent care.

So many getting funding for dumb reseach like "When do people die hitting tree while snow skiing", the reseach shows that people died hitting trees while snow skiing on THEIR last run of the day!

Guess it is hard to make another run if your dead! That was $1.6 million dollars in research funding ! Did it help ski resorts ? or anyone? except the bank accounts of those with connections to get the grants?
