Forget Disney World, I'm Going To Diggerland!

Posted August 05, 2008 9:21 AM

From OhGizmo!:

If you're a fan of heavy earth moving machinery, I'd suggest canceling that Disney World trip you have planned, and instead take the family to an even more magical place known as Diggerland. As far as I know it's the only 'theme park' in the world where kids and adults can drive and operate real construction equipment including back hoes, dump trucks and all sizes of diggers. And surprisingly while you'd expect to find a park dedicated to heavy machinery in the US, it's actually located in the UK. But seriously, while I probably wouldn't plan a family vacation around Diggerland, I still think it would be really cool to spend an entire day playing around with gigantic toys like these. (Legally, that is.) I mean how many times have you walked past a construction site at night and wondered if someone has left the keys in the ignition of that giant excavator? If I was the only one then I don't think a place like Diggerland would exist.

It's great fun (personal recommendation, usual disclaimer). [Been there, done it and got the T-shirt.]

Spotted: an eight-year-old on the largest 10-ton digging machine. He's clearly been there before. He was 'digging for England'. His hole was getting bigger and bigger and so was the pile of dirt to one side of it. And the funniest thing? The little lad's feet wouldn't touch the floor of the machine's cab!

Oh yeah! I wish we had something like that here in the Colonies, there would be a line way down the road. My dream would be running a Catapiller D10 or a Dragline.

Sounds like fun. If I ever make to that side of the pond I'll have to check it out.
Closest thing I ever got to do like this is drive a skid loader or my friends WWII Sherman tank around.

My first thought was about safety, but apparently that has been addressed. I'm around this kind of stuff daily, so am probably more impressed by Scotchdrinkr's friend's Sherman tank, but it would be fun! I always wanted to drive a belly-dragger earthmover when I was a kid!

Such a shame we don't have a Diggerland here.

Mind you, I have done my share of work using heavy machinery.

Such fun, when you're just a big kid at heart.

Kind Regards....
