Forbes Park: An Exemplary Sustainable Community

Posted August 19, 2008 8:47 AM

From INHABITAT:

The new Forbes Park residence in Chelsea, MA is giving new life to the old Forbes Lithograph Manufacturing Company, re-envisioning it as a prime model for sustainable development in urban city cores. Their self-titled "Hybrid" moniker derives from the project's extensive use of renewable energy sources, and the grandest green addition to the site is a 240-foot tall wind turbine that will provide the majority of the complex's electricity. Other unique features include the addition of a water taxi stand for easy access to downtown Boston, a shared fleet of electric cars for all residences, and the installation of a number of “Forbes Orbes that will let all residents know when they should conserve energy more actively.

“Forbes Orbes

What gives???

As far as "energy efficiency" goes, that site just does not appear to be efficient at all.

Kind Regards....

These types of facilities are usually torn down due to toxic ink and pigment contamination.

always look on the bright side! if it works it will be self sustaining after a while, and that will be incredibly valuable in the future. can you imagine never paying an energy bill again? with solar panels you can power your own home without being connected to the grid. more importantly though, you wont be affected by power or fuel shortages. if you buy some solar panels for a couple of thousand pounds, they will pay themselves off in a few years, and after that its free energy forever more. itd be great with an electric car. if you want more information about renewable energy you can go to this website, they also sell solar panels, so its well worth a look;
