Every barn needs to be mucked out now and then.

I wonder what the numbers are for people who were so turned off by Windows over the years that they embraced Mac OS or other operating systems and hardware. I know I took the plunge to see if Mac hardware and software was worth the extra cost and to me it is. I'd have to say that my disappointment in Vista was a large part of the motivation, but plus Macs look better :)

Reminds me of windows 98.

I do not know what the problem is, heck Microsoft can say that the performance issues is the new standard.

I paid the extra (about 15% of purchase price) to have a laptop with XP.

I've two CAD workstations and and one dedicated e-mail server.

Until recently, One CAD station used Windows 2000 Pro, the Other CAD unit ran Windows XP Pro and this E-mail server ran Windows 2000 Pro.

The CAD software we use was invented before Windows XP and works far better with 2K so that didn't change. A SCSI based system, and very stable, I was not about to introduce a destabilizing influence on that environment, no matter what MS claimed.

When we were forced to switch ISP's (to Verizon) their system fought with our Norton utilities because it was Windows 2K compliant.

We called everywhere we could think of to get opinions and after about half a day of horror stories, bought a few more seats of Windows XP Pro, even though MS warned us it would no longer be supported soon.

Given the choice between having support for something unreliable and no support for something reliable and known, the choice was obvious.

Windows Vi$ta may well be the swansong of Microsoft.

This time they have gone too far.

Emboldened by the Marketing Division, and the M$ Codewrioters, recent WinXP Updates have crippled many thousands of PC's worldwide, including 2 of my own.

This has cost me absolute frustration, as properly working Software has been corrupted, and now I have to try and save data, and reFormat all those HDD's.

Of course there is never an apology.

Now that the computer industry has saturated that market financial growth has to be sought in new places. The growth principals that I think drove Vista:

- Offering more frequent upgrades to keep a continuous flow of new product.

- Reducing development costs.

- Pressure from the hardware industry to create more resource demanding software.

Unfortunately this is not in the consumers best interest. This is just a desperate measure to keep MSFT growing. If they want to keep growing they need to look further and expand into new markets.

I will be purchasing a new computer in the next few months. It will be a Mac.

I would concur (and maybe I haven't seen all that Mac has to offer) but I am really turned off by how Mac's seem to be packaged into singular units. Their laptop batteries cannot be replaced and there is no slot to add an extra. I not sure how far they can be upgraded and it appears everything for them is proprietary.

A co-worker on the design side of my business came by to get some help getting a stuck CD out. I grab a paper clip and head on over. Whelp, there is no little manual eject hole! You can't open the case without voiding the warranty either. We had to mail the unit out to get it "repaired." With a PC you'd have a 5 minute DIY fix.

That's a very high number considering Microsoft will only let you downgrade on certain versions of Vista.

Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium does not grant you downgrade rights. Neither does any version of Vista bought at retail. The only versions which allow you to downgrade are OEM versions of Vista Business or Vista Ultimate.

Maybe if you bitched at MS long enough they would let Home users downgrade also but good luck with that.

EDIT: I think this article means 35% of the business users who are eligible. Makes a little more sense.
