Full Body Etch-A-Sketch

Posted September 25, 2008 10:42 AM

From MAKE Magazine:

Ben writes in with this interesting experiment in body control - The project "no strings: recursive" has drawn inspiration from the mouse-based turntable interfaces that you blogged a while back. In this work arms and legs are used to control the mouse pointers of two separate computers allowing me to write (or draw)two different things simultaneous. And yes the belt that turns the little wheel in the roller-ball mouse is dental floss. This makes the traditional etch-a-sketch look easy by comparison. - No Strings

It looks like he's out of his face on something. For a cheap diversion in body control, try this one;

I spent hours as a kid teaching myself to do this and a few similar ones (clockwise circle right hand, antic clockwise circle left hand, rubbing tummy in a circle left hand and patting on top of your head with your right hand), I can still do them! I just tried and I haven't forgotten!!!

So it is possible, if you want to waste a few hours training yourself, its probably not possible to do straight off with no previous training!!

The head/tummy one's no problem, but the #1 thing was driving me nuts ! My consolation is that I can turn my tongue upside down by twisting it, and also form it into a tunnel shape sticking out of my mouth. Tongue curling is easy for most people, and I've just found out that some opinion says it's not hereditary as is commonly thought.

Here's something that IS hereditary: If neither of your parents could have children, then you can't either! Bet you never realized that, didja? Now, if you are so good at tongue contortions, let's see you stick out my tongue...

Could do it but it was hard! I can move each joint of my fingers independently (years of practice). The hardest is the middle joint of the thumb.

I think your's is harder.

When I was little I could not do the itsy bitsy spider thumb to finger motion. I guess later I got carried away.

I started the actions, read a few more Posts and tried them all simultaneously.

I place the warning here: Do not try these at home.

The local Hospital Emergency Department had never seen a human pretzel before.

Kind Regards....
