Machine vision has been has been an expensive, complicated solution, only used for complex inspection and part-placement applications. Such systems typically require experienced integrators to get them to work and stay properly tuned.
But now there's a new breed of lower-cost, almost appliance-like devices called "vision sensors," said to be far simpler to install, configure, and program than high-end vision systems.
Vision sensors may be just the ticket for simple inspection applications that don't warrant a full-blown vision system, but are a bit beyond the capability of, say, photoelectric or inductive proximity sensors. Have you worked with any of the new vision sensors, and if so, what's your experience?
