How to Convert VHP Steam into HP Steam Using Pressure Reducing System

04/16/2015 12:23 PM

In our plant they there is no direct line for hp steam. They just convert vhp steam coming from header into hp steam by using pressure reducing system. Where they mix mp boiler feed water with vhp steam in prds system so i want to know the proper working principle and construction of this system.

Dear Mr.Haider9,

Your Statement is insufficient and you have to indicate the quantity of steam after PRDS and its Parameters, and the condition of VHP steam entering PRDS and its condition and the Feed Water conditions/parameters.

The principle involved is very simple.

The Enthalpy entering the PRDS system and the Enthalpy after PRDS remains same. The heat loss by radiation is ignored. If radiation loss is to be accounted the nett available steam after PRDS will reduce depending upon the radiation.

The equation is:

((Enthalpy/Kg. of VHP steam) x (Flow in Kgs./Hr.) ) + (Enthalpy of Feed Water/Kg) = ((Enthalpy of Steam/Kg after PRDS) x Quantity of Steam/Hr.))

In the above Eqn. Q is only unknown, which can be calculated.

Do you mean that there's no Utilities Engineer that you can ask? Ye gods! Who is running the show, Mildred?

I built this last week. It turns VHPS into HPS. What more is there to say?

That's awfully fancy. The CR4 homework assignment is to explain each pictured component, including the redundant or oddly piped ones.

Of course, turning VHPS into HPS is not so simple as omitting the V....

Indeed.

When they were going to expand domain names a while ago, I hoped for .ind, meaning individual.

Hi Lyn,

All jokes aside, I like it.

lyn-

I'm very disappointed with the pictorial. I would expect more accuracy for Lyndoor Industries. Starting from the left, there is a steam gauge without a steam loop on the feed to the gauge. The last item is a steam loop for a gauge, on the right end, with no gauge attached to it nor a cap to prevent steam from exiting through it.

Otherwise, I think it is GREAT! EXCELLENT!

Good Luck, Old Salt
