Greatest Gadgets of All Time

Wired Magazine has a bracket style tournament to vote for the greatest gadget of all time. If your picks are the same as the most popular picks you win points.

Will it be the Apple iPod, the Nintendo Wii or the humble Swiss Army Knife?

Depends what you call a gadget.... but I would reckon a mobile phone must be near the top of the list...

Especially the idea of putting a camera in one.... now that would be what I'd call a gadget... who would have thought of putting a camera in a phone?

Thanks for that Julie, although I'm not sure being stopped by our police carrying one of those would end up being put in a cell, they are getting very strict about carrying knives etc...

Not to worry Electroman! With one of those Leatherman thingees helping you to escape, you wouldn't stay in the cell for very long!

My vote is for the arrowhead-shaped vegetable peeler. Unbelievably unerring, and completely easy to use...requires no special angles of holding, got a quick potato-eye remover on the point, the body is a scraper for those tough veggie skin bits, and it's easy to clean. Can't imagine why anyone would want to use the handle-and-blade type peelers that cost so much and work so inefficiently by comparison.

Mark, I can tell that you're not left handed!!

Those standard vegetable peelers are fine for 90% of the population but the 9+% are left handed and those peelers are a menace to use...

The most widely used gadget in recent times, since its discovery, has been the humble compass. Every ship, etc, boy/girl scouts, military, hikers, etc has a compass.
