What happened to that thread?

12/09/2015 3:15 PM

There were 2 "Surface Rust on 316L SS Catwalk" posts yesterday. One was "closed" for being a duplicate and the other was still going.

Did admin delete the wrong one?

Still there in my 'Subscribed Discussions', probably solved and admin took it off the front page.

If you click on the 'See all Forum Threads' link, you can then scroll down to see it.

It must have been mistakenly deleted....the one left in 'all forums' is the wrong one...

It's possible somebody posted something offensive, I didn't see anything, but that would explain it....

It looks like the wrong one was inadvertently deleted. Sorry about that! :(

Yes, that's what I thought. I've never seen that happen here. Is it deleted deleted, or can you get it back somehow?

It lives somewhere, but not in a place where I can retrieve it.

Re: What happened to that thread?

Yes, they deleted the wrong one. The first of them was closed after two replies, and the other got up to a dozen or two replies. Savvy was going to keep the closed thread on display for a while so that people could migrate to the second one. Then the second one got deleted. Apparently the first one was then reopened, getting a couple more replies thus far.

Unfortunately, some good info about passivation got lost in the process.

Yes but, passivating corrosion resistant steel is not an unknown.

Customer satisfaction/service, on the other hand..........................................

I'm already forgetting quips such as " lt's neither stainless nor steel.."

Passivation may be common knowledge Lyn, but I'm still a little rusty.

Oh, that's bad!

The basic conclusion was that Barkeeper's friend with oxalic acid will clean the surface but passivation requires either citric acid or nitric acid bath at specific temperature and concentration for a period of time...for this 316L and other types of austenitic SS....
