Thanks for the reply.

1/4" x 20 thread count. I am in the USA, St George, Utah to be exact. I'll need a lot if that matters.

Search for "Binding post screw".

Fastenal stocks them.

Troy36,

They don't stock the exact one I am looking for, & it's not a screw. It's a nut or female hardware.

Sincerely,

Matthew

You say you will need "a lot of them". Fastenal does custom work as well. I have had them make other hardware for me before where they fabricated large quantities cheaper than I could buy them from the OEM. You just have to ensure that you don't do any patent infringing.

If you have a sample and a good store manager, they can cost everything out for you including the finishing. Your description probably is a black oxide coating.

I think I should probably clarify "a lot" - in my case it was 20,000 pcs.

St. George is a beautiful town.

I lived in Cedar City for 6 months doing consulting work.

Drove through there many times on the way to LV airport.

phoenix911,

I think I did find it here once, but now I don't know where I thought I saved the page. And I am not familiar enough with the website to do a detailed search. And because these things have so many names it's hard to find this exact one that I want.

The head on this thing is the size of a nickle, if not a little bigger. Thanks for the help.

Sincerely,

Matthew

gringogreg,

Thanks for the info, but it doesn't look exactly like the item I want. It is a phillips head type with a rounded head HERE

I'm looking for a flat head with a chamfered edge with a black finish & the head is closer to the size of a nickle or slightly larger.

Thanks,

Matthew

It appears that you manufacture shooting accessories.

I'm guessing you want black oxide metal screws?

Lyn,

Yes, I do want black oxide female posts. As I have already found the set screws that the post, or barrel nuts, or etc will fit. There are too many names for these things.

Thanks

Technically not barrel nuts. Try post screws/nuts

Cabinet manufacturers commonly use similar items to fix their modules together.

Those nuts are generally plastic though, so if you require metal nuts, that may not be of any help.

Here's a pic of ones that I use.

Loose leaf binder manufacturers or suppliers use a similar item in metal. If you look up "screw posts" or "post screws" you may get some hits

Spades,

Thanks, but not exactly what I am looking for. The ones I'm looking for are aluminum I believe, but do look very similar to the ones you have shown, but the ones I am looking for are female nuts, not screws.

I appreciate the help

Makes a huge difference in the search if you know the material for sure. If these are light-weight, easily scratched to reveal a silvery, not dull gray metal, they are aluminum.

If the totally dissolve in drain cleaner, they are aluminum.

Try this link: http://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/09393695

If they do not have the exact item, if you send photo or example of, they might still be able to help. The heads on the ones you have are a modified type that is rare to find. I think the term is flush taper slotted chicago nut.

I'd say he's looking for a black anodize coating.

It goes on shooter's accessories.

You know, for "hunting" prairie dogs and such.

I'm pretty sure I've seen those at my local Home Depot outlet. They're in the specialty screw section. You might have to find an 'associate' to help you - the ones at my local HD are usually pretty friendly and and helpful.

Also try Worth-Service Supply, they can give you a bid based on the quantity of them you require. A term that we have used for these is a sex bolt. There almost as many names for these as there are uses. We use them to attach door closers to doors in a thru-bolt fashion and also to mount panic exit bars to doors as well.

Thanks for the help. The Sex bolts are usually smaller diameter with a small head. I need some that looks exactly like the picture I posted.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Re: Large Slotted Barrel Nut

Like I said If you talk to Wurth - Service Supply , all you need to do is send them a sample they will have them made to your spec as per your example. we have ordered from 10,000 thousand to 50,000 thousand fasteners from them. most of the sex bolts we use are 10/28,1/4-20, or 5/16-18, and I have seen them considerably larger then that. But like I said they will make almost any fastener you need to your spec no mater how odd you may think it is they probably already have a spec manufacturer making something similar to it and can change a run to make what you want.

Sorry I did not get notification of your last comment. The parts we were specing cost around .10-.19 each item and listed for almost 2.00 a pack of 4. Was not a lot of profit in them but filled a nitch that was not covered by our suppliers. When they found out we had a supply of them they started keeping up on the amount of product on the shelves just to keep us from moving into their sales arena.

I appreciate the help. I feel like I will eventually find these.

Sincerely,

Try Grainger.com, and don't be afraid to seach Ebay, and also Amazon.

I almost found them on Amazon, but not exact, you could do a more refined search, I spent all of 30 seconds.

This is a perfect application for 3D printing ... maybe some day before too long OP could take these parts to a local hardware store and the store could print them.

Re: Large Slotted Barrel Nut

Looks like a saw nut to me.

Think a carpenter crosscut saw and the wood 'D' shaped handle. The handle is made fast to the saw blade with these saw nuts and a companion saw screw, and with better quality saws one larger headed and more decorative specimen called the medallion nut is common as well.

Google search 'saw nut' or 'saw handle bolt' shows me many possible candidates.

Doorman,

Thank you greatly, yes that looks like the female nut that I want. Now if I can find a supplier since, most of the listings I have found are for outdated eBay listings for the saw handle.

Thank you greatly, I appreciate it. I would have never guessed it would have been called this.

Sincerely,

Matthew
