EMF Protection

02/29/2016 9:31 AM

do any of the products that are advertised to protect you from emf and other bad things really work, if not is there something that will protect you from laptop horrors.

I'm avoiding laptop horrors by not downloading Windows 10.

But what are you going to do when Bill quits up dating your Windows version? I'm caught in that now. You Tube repeatedly warned me to update my internet browser, so I switched from Internet Explorer to Chrome. (bad choice - I know) Now Chrome warns me it will no longer be updated because of my Windows version. So onto Firefox for now. If you want Windows, Bill is going to get some of your money one way or another.

"But what are you going to do when Bill quits up dating your Windows version?"

Simple Answer: upgrade to Linux.

Long Answer: research the various Linux distributions (distros) and find the one that best suits your needs. For those who prefer the "Keyboard and Mouse Desktop" model that has been around 'forever' (in computer time), I would recommend Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop. www.linuxmint.com Linux Mint comes with two desktop variants, the one they built specifically for Mint, and the Gnome(1) desktop, which is more familiar to people who have migrated to Linux Mint from Ubuntu Linux, after Ubuntu shifted from Gnome to the Unity browser.

Notes:

  1. Pronounced with a non-silent G, 'Guh-nome,' in the long standing tradition of Linux programmers to make and build on bad puns. The 'voiced-G' Gnome is built off the core OS name, GNU, pronounced 'Guh-new,' and being an acronym for 'Gnu's Not Unix.'

Re: emf protection

What horrors are you speaking about?

All laptops must meet EMI standards as set by the country they are sold to. Those standards are pretty strict, so any radiation is going to be very low.

Adding additional shielding is probably a waste of money and unless it is properly grounded, useless.

Bottom line: you are being sold a load of poop.

Robin! You should NEVER look directly at ionizing radiation, that's a good way to ruin your eyes. That's like telling people to look directly at a solar eclipse. I like a good joke as much as the next bird, but show some responsibility.

Re: emf protection

The only real danger is sitting a hot laptop on your lap for extender periods of time (the underside can get hot enough to cause discomfort, and possibly burns or reproduction issues). Again, it depends on the make, model and hardware inside the laptop, but the fix is simple (and obvious) enough.

The rest of the products are scams. Worst one I saw was being sold at an international airport. It was from a high-end perfume seller (name withheld) and was labelled as an EMF protection solution that you sprayed onto your face to protect you from rays coming out of your CRT monitor (those old monitors with the really thick leaded glass).

Something like 85% shielding against EMF was advertised but the primary ingredient was water and the rest were just fragrances and moisturiser agents.

This is actually not the first this question has been asked on CR4.

Try a search of the CR4 website for many previous discussions which include specific scientific explanations and links.

The fact there is no reputable scientific studies showing there is an issue should be pretty telling in itself.

Try flipping it around and ask the purveyors of such equipment for scientific proof that their products are necessary, or even effective.

At the risk of being accused of blatant self-promotion, LynDoor™Industries does offer EMF protection for bad emissions with our FuzzBuster® 1000 product line.

It is up to 99% effective in keeping those bad vibes from killing your sperm.

Of course "up to 99% effective" also includes 0-98% uneffective, so it might be totally useless.

hello Grank here, i started this emf discussion so i will make another comment.

the safe level of emf is different in a lot of countries so to say what is good here is ok, is misleading, to go off subject a wee bit water is an example, different standards in different countries, there does not seem to be a consensus even in the scientific community, so an opinion was sought.

grank, the "safe" level of radiation is the same the world over. That does not change when one crosses a border.

There may be differences of opinion about what constitutes a "safe" level, but the physical effect that the radiation has on the body does not change!

And, for the record, you sought scientific evidence. What you got was opinions.

I expect that if you consult scientific journals, you would perhaps get definitive answers, based on the tests and experiments conducted.

Re: EMF Protection

That is due to the differences between metric emissions and Imperial emissions. The electronic parts in the Americas are inch based and the parts in Europe are metric based. The differences in physical size cause differences in emissions.

Read up on resonance, antenna efficiency, shielding characteristics, open slot radiators, resonant cavities, wave guides, etc. Physical dimensions are part of the mathematical equations for all of these. As the physical size of all components change the emission characteristics change. Since the emission rules are much tighter in Europe you know that metric emissions are far more dangerous than Imperial emissions.

We were worried about the EMF radiation from the transformers across the street. with a little investigation we discovered we were getting much more from our coffeemaker. Besides, I like the way the laptop keeps my lap warm in the Wintertime.
