Another trip hazard that needs tidying-up before someone goes base-over-apex. Someone is getting careless over basic housekeeping.

It must be a table leg leveler to be used after sawing a little bit of each leg to try to get it level. Assuming, of course, that there are any legs left.....

The little lightning bolts makes me think it has something to do with a tazzer....or it could be something to do with electric fence installation.....

I give up!

Years ago I had a little hobby vise with a suction base. It also came with a clamp that looked just about like this to more firmly clamp the vise to a table.

With the lower part being larger diameter, I'd say that the handle..... you cut it off the picture..... intentional maybe?

the smaller round rubber do-dad pointing up looks like its the working end.

Some type of inserter or extractor or something.

The chains I use have a derailleur that adjusts the tension as I change gears.

I like mine a bit more vintage. That's a new build with a 26 year old derailleur. Still works great, with frame mounted friction shifters.

Not sure of the vintage of your bike, but my wife and I have (and still use) matching his and her ten-speeds we purchased at a Sears in California back in 1986. I don't know if they even have a brand name, maybe Kenmore?

The bike in the picture is my "newest" rebuild. It is a 1990 Trek with a host of "new old" parts to make it look older. I have rebuilt 7 older bikes, four Schwinns, two giants, and a nameless from the 1980's. I have a very large collection of parts. I've bought yard sale bikes just for salvageable parts. I currently have a 1976 Schwinn Varsity and a 1972 Sting Ray waiting for rebuilding. Have to find a new powder coater before I start to strip them down.

Keep pedaling.

Yes, that's not how I'd do it... But.... It's being a long time since I rode bike....so.... I could be considered a newbie,.... So

I'd be offended if it wasn't true... But since I didn't know it's even existed.... Or even since that I do know now,....I'd never use it.

Wow, I've been riding motorcycles and adjusting chains for 37 years. I never knew I needed that.

But my Buell has a belt and a spring loaded tensioner so no more oil fling on the rear wheel. Still have a bevy of dirt bikes with roller chains.

This is a belt tensioner.

Belt Drive Tool Belt Tension Gauge Parts | RockAuto

A worthy candidate for a "What is it".

We got one with every belt driven centrifugal we bought, in a past life.

One thing to note when adjusting motorcycle chains, is to rotate the rear wheel off the ground and just 'watch' the chain. Sometimes the rear sprocket is not concentric and the chain tension will increase and decrease as it rotates. (Also you can spot any links that might be binding.) Set the minimum tension (free-play, usually about 3/4 inch to 1 inch) when it's at its tightest so you don't excessively stretch your chain. I usually get about 20,000 miles out of my street chains with a modest amount of care. A slightly 'loose' chain does far less damage than a slightly 'tight' chain. Obviously, a grossly loose chain can be a significant safety hazard.
