By using an evaporator pressure regulator, or compressor cut-out and cut-in settings, to ensure that the evaporating temperature never goes below freezing.

Usually by a thermostat and or timer (defrost cycle) depending on what type of unit (heat pump) and how the manufacture wants to control it.

If this is a package unit or split AC system and your evaporator is icing over, you have more problems than a defrost cycle

Re: Anti-ice control

"Note that the defrost timer motor is powered through the contactor, so it will only run when the compressor runs. The outdoor coil thermostat has its sensing bulb on the outdoor coil. The defrost clock closes its contact for about 10 seconds every set defrost period. As an example, let’s say this is every 90 minutes. The outdoor coil thermostat is set for 32°F and closes on temperature fall. If during the 10 second period the outdoor thermostat is open, a defrost will not be initiated, and the timer must go around another 90 minute cycle before trying again. If the outdoor thermostat is closed, the defrost relay is energized, closing the holding contact and initiating defrost.

To terminate defrost, the coil sensor senses the coil temperature rise and its normally closed contact opens, de-energizing the defrost relay and terminating the defrost cycle. As long as ice is on the coil during defrost, its temperature will be near 32°F. After the ice is melted, the coil temperature will rise rapidly."

Well- the system is a townhouse central heating / cooling system - uses hot water tank for heating.

Hi velocity system.

There are several methods, as you can see from prior posts. We can't see your system from here, and you have given absolutely no details. So your question makes no sense.

its just a thermostat........works on temperature. if the coil see's 32 degrees it hss contacts the activate and the machine shuts off, stopping the freezing process

Do you mean it is a another thermostat - which stops the compressor when the temperature drops to below 32 degrees ?

If so - where that thermostat is located ??

it's usually fixed at that temp or close to it, it isn't usually adjustable . its considered a "safety control", NOT an operational control for the user

Re: Anti-ice control

Among the possibilities are these:

1. A thermostat with switching mechanism (and possible adjusting dial) located in the compressor compartment or control panel, with a capillary tube to a sensing bulb embedded in the evaporator.

2. A so-called "Klixon" thermostat mounted to a U-bend at one end of the evaporator coil, with wires going to the compressor compartment or control panel.

3. Could be others.

Also the image is there, in a large size , in the installation manual of the system page 35.

Thanks for help.
