Apology

08/29/2016 9:39 AM

I want to apologize to CR4 for inadvertently starting a "political" discussion. It was very interesting to see how quickly a question about engineering challenges digressed. Again sorry.

Like any engineering question of this type, due to the feasibility and costs it will have to be directed by the government.

Which with the tolerance here, is a no no.

don't let it keep you up at night.

What's an "appology", a smart-phone thingy that says you're sorry? (Maybe I should trademark that?)

Oh, I see somebody fixed that.

You specifically asked for members to refrain. It is not on you that some could/would not!

In a different post a week or so ago, I ask for a separate CR4 Section to allow members to send to any discussion going political, where it may continue without offending those looking for pure engineering, or even those from other countries than the USA (YES - MOST DEFINITELY most of these type digressions are from US politics) who really have no concern about our political views. Some scoffed at the idea, but here is a prime example of such a need. The OP did NOT want any politics, but of course, he got it.

As Savvy pointed out, the "Break Room" is for off topic discussions, but most of our off topics start out as questions about a benign subject and then morph into other, more controversial subjects like this one and the, "Do You Text and Drive? Should You Be Allowed To?" thread.

It happens and yes, this one (Fence) is my fault for escalating it, with considerable help from others.

A mechanism for moving things to the "padded cell" would be nice, but may be impractical.

This happens with many threads where a question on telling time morphs into watch building and sundials.

Engineers are never satisfied. I learned this when working at developing active noise cancellation. There was always a new, better chip our genius engineer would want to evaluate.

Finally, you drive a stake in the ground and say "that's good enough, we're going with this design".

Here, there is nothing to stop the, "but this way is better" syndrome.

We're all guilty.

Engineers are never satisfied.

Depends on the engineer.

I learned this when working at developing active noise cancellation. There was always a new, better chip our genius engineer would want to evaluate.

Genius engineer - quite derogatory. Probably deserved. Talking about this person in the third person leads me to the fact that you have a lot of knowledge, but don't have the paper. Is this true? I know a lot of technicians that can run circles around engineers in practical/real-life/common-sense situations and my hats are off to them. I learn a lot from them.

Here, there is nothing to stop the, "but this way is better" syndrome.

Why are you so furiously backpedalling?

We're all guilty.

Speak for yourself!

"Genius engineer - quite derogatory."

That's a really ignorant thing to say. How is it derogatory?

Are you suggesting someone who is extremely talented is disqualified from being a genius because they are an engineer?

OR, are you suggesting someone who is extremely talented is disqualified from being an engineer because they are an genius?

I have not been here for YEARS...but can not figure why YOU would offer an apology for something that others most likely caused to go down hill.

We, as a species, are like that...wanna argue and make our points. I'll never forget one of the last threads I posted about Patriots day (9/11) many years ago... It was up for all of a few hours and then locked and discarded.

I was sent an email about what happened after I questioned the decision. I guess if it was our domain we could make the rules, huh??
