Survival-capsule.com

12/18/2017 7:26 AM

Holds 2-10 people. Able to withstand tsunamis, tornadoes, waterfalls, earthquakes etc. So says the maker. I don't know if anyone has actually been inside one while being spun by a tornado and then flung at 200 + mph !

What do you think & would you buy one of these ?

I would think that a standard storm cellar would be much more affordable, and survivable, even when suffering the added expense of effective structural enhancements...

The last place you want to be in an earthquake or a tsunami, is underground....where you would be likely to end up...permanently...Storm cellar is only good for a tornado...

60 minutes of oxygen - maybe enough for a tsunami scenario? Maybe not great for earthquake, assuming the pod itself got buried by collapsing buildings.. Not enough for fire, really.

Realistic time frame for rescue after a disaster, would be days to weeks, certainly not hours. So you would have to trust the oxygen to be enough to last the disaster, or that conditions outside the pod vents would be breatheable in short order...

If I'd been through a tsunami and lived in the risk zone, I might find it more attractive. The adrenaline would probably kill me though, disaster-level excitement and now you must sit quietly in your tiny pod and harness. Yes, I'd want a smoke too. First one kicked out of the pod.

Aircraft Aluminum means nothing really as to holding up to against what nature can throw at it.... and to withstand the affects of a tornado huh?....

There's more,

And even if these shelters can survive,... whose to ssw the occupants inside would.

Seems to tick all the boxes as a valid and potentially useful safety product for certain people in certain areas.

However there are practical reality issues I can see.....

1) Earthquake - Practically useless as you cannot predict when one will occur and hence have no chance of being close enough to get in. Aftershocks are also random and spread over a long period of time and smaller than the main quake.

2) Waterfalls - Seriously, don't try and intentionally go over a waterfall in this for a laugh.

3) Tornado - While I guess the pod would survive I seriously doubt the occupants would get out without serious or even fatal injuries. Get underground, under an overpass, or just run away.

4) Tsunamis - Yes potentially useful, but you really need to plan where the pod is going to be stored least you get buried and unable to get out

Tornado, I'm sorry about those unreadable images, but maybe you can help me out there. If you got an extra good running desktop sitting around, you could send it to me. Just let me know and I will tell some of the members here to forward my mailing address to you.

You could copy the URL of the page to be viewed; or, better yet, insert as a hyperlink.

You can create a hyperlink for anything by holding down the left mouse button and passing the pointer over the picture or text, this will turn the object or text blue, next click on the chain link in the top menu bar, this will open a small window, go to the page where the picture or text is and copy the address in the address bar at the top of the browser, then paste that into the window you opened for the image or text that you wish to make a link....If the link is active your pointer will turn into a little hand when it passes overhead, and the address will appear at the bottom of the page....

If I were building an oceanfront home I might use an anchored four pole pyramid structure hidden in the frame of the home. The top portion would be a room clad in steel panels and fully equipped.

Should a tsunami etc. happen I'd ride it out with pyramid power. (The rest of the home would wash away) and most debris would skip past.

"If I you were building an oceanfront home" you would have just won the lottery.

I just don't see the need for this.

I'm happy ? living inland, in poverty.

We should make cars that are survival pods...

first stage structural foam deployment...

second stage external airbag deployment...

third stage structural airbag deployment....

...of course good luck getting out....haha

Is the inside smooth enough to squeegee out the remains after the 200mph-0 instant deceleration?

Kind of like the commentary about burial in space where the extraterrestrials will send a thank you note for all the tasty snacks deployed around the planet prior to the landing celebration.

If the catastrophe were such that enclosure by this thing were to become necessary for survival, then it is doubtful if the outside of the thing would be worth experiencing afterwards. Therefore the only persons that would buy such a thing would be those with more money than sense. That makes it a "con trick".
