The Day of Al Gore!

10/12/2007 9:03 AM

Congratulations!

The Nobel Prize committee granted the World Peace Prize laurel to Al Gore, who is one of the most respected Americans in China.

This is a interesting comments from my customer in USA:

How disturbing it is to realize that during the 2000 election the media sold the lie that there was no real difference between Gore and Bush. When I see Gore and Bush today I shake in absolute rage at the Supreme Court for having denied us our rightful President. That decision will go down in history as one of the worst in terms of legal precedent and global significance.

That may well be your customers saddest day, but it shows that our system works, the vote was in favor of Bush therefore he won. Gore is a Pseudo-political entity lacking real skills and or talent, harping on make believe sciences as a fear monger would hawk rumors of war. The rightful president was elected and placed in office, his accomplishments will stand the test of time, whereas Gore's will waver and drift of into another realm of global warming.

Notice that I have not made any comments as to Chinas political presences in their own home land and elsewhere nor mentioned the political activities that are rampant in todays China

Well, Al's heart may be in the right place, but the grant of the award is disturbing in light of all the half-truths and exaggerations Al has made in his publications and speeches.

What this tells me is that the Prize no longer holds the esteem that it was intended to have when it is awarded in such a way. I do not believe that the end justifies the means nor is dishonesty respectful. However, those are just my scruples and not everyone shares them.

Poor Al can't help it - he's a politician. They can't distinguish between logic and rhetoric, fact and slogan.

But, as I've stated here before - just because the messenger's an idiot doesn't mean the message isn't worth listening to.

Besides - there's precious little Peace Prize material for the Nobel judges to choose from at the moment.

I share your opinion and scruples. It is a sad day for the scientific community when the Nobel Committee has awarded this prize to Al Gore. Pseudo-science is not truth. If Al Gore is allowed to use this to make a stump for the presidential election, we will get what we deserve.

Indeed, the Nobel Prize just lost it's glitter. It seems obvious that the UN put pressure on the committee to do this, remember there is a lot of dinero riding on putting this.

I saw on a US web site that Al Gore's monthly electricity Bill, exceeds some several 1000 dollars.......how can he postulate on CO2 emissions?????

He married a Rich Lady, so he does not really care, as long as he is OK.....

President George Bush should have shared the award . isn`t he nobel enough

this prestigious awards will loose its shine if not kept away from politics or poltical related achivements , is that all we are going to see in the future, already they get enough milege through there achievements that is power and control the faith of nation , state, world and all that. science , literature have contributed for well being of mankind through ages and will so till human existence , that was the bulding block to set up such functionary ( just as Alfered Nobel thought)

Still we have to congratulate Al Gore for the most respected award , he connot be denied just because he is a politician , and also the Nobel prize commtee for taking such decisions

All it takes is for men of "integrity" to stop speacking up against this garbage when it occurs (whether in the Halls of Congress, the Senate Chambers or elsewhere) and the whole system runs amok.

The Nobel Prize, originally a conscience-salving tribute to a weapons magnate, has sunken steadily further in the the political muck. The prizes for the hard sciences have become more on the order of lifetime achievement awards, and the Peace prize has become a mockery.

There is a ridiculous phenomenon, I found most bloggers here are negative for the Al's achievement, but on the contrary, I also found most bloggers are positive in other forums, so I am a little curious what's going on,, it impresses to me deeply that different forum have completely different point views.

I liked in a way what you wrote, especially:-

Please, we need plural atmosphere and diverse opinions only which lead to real democracy!

But isn't that exactly what you are getting? exactly what you asked for?

My personal take on AG has nothing to do with the Presidency that he almost got, its to do with the way he lives.....

Al Gore is married to an extremely rich person, I once read that the value of his/their monthly electricity bill alone would feed 4 poor families......(you probably know more about this than I do, I live a long way away....)

The amount of CO2 produced to supply his house with electricity (as just one small point, but I bet he does not have "small" cars either...), far outweighs the relatively small amounts that you or I produce together, most likely.....

In fact it reminds me of the Book (and now also available as a film) of "Animal farm".......George Orwell I believe wrote the book.....

"Do what I say not what I do!" seems to be the rule here!

As others have pointed out, he even once claimed to have invented the internet! A rapid retraction was made on that one at the time......

Sorry, but he is not my type at all as really, as I feel strongly that democrats should not acquire wealth in the sizes and amounts that some of them do.......or at least, not use it for personal aggrandisement as AG does......he should give 75% immediately away to charity.......and try and live carefully on the rest.

Thats my take, I wish you (all) a great day in spite of my negative opinions of AG....

OK, from all your opinions, i jump a conclusion that Al Gore is not welcomed by CR4, but anyway, thank all of you for the interests of this subject, as Andy Germany said:we don't favor the guys advise others to do, but do not do it oneself.

Have a great day, guys, byebye!

It's really quite simple.

Most bloggers are young - the median demographic is about 18 years old. Youngsters tend toward the liberal, so there is a slant toward Gore on much of the Internet.

Engineers tend to be conservative curmudgeonly skeptics, so on this site the slant is anti-Gore.

We have a pretty good mix on the issue of global warming here though. A slight majority of right thinking scholars, with a large minority of wrong headed idiots.

Your last paragraph you state that slightly over half of CR4 posters are correct on global warming, and slightly under half are idiots. But you don't say which half is right?

When you retire, have you considered taking up politics? With practice and imagination you might have another career!

You don't think they come up with all that stuff on the fly, do you? It takes a full complement of writers, image-makers, spinmeisters, etc. etc. to come up with all the gems politicians say.

That's why the US has the best political system money can buy!

Mr (or Miz) Ried,

he does not need practise, he is already a perfect politician.....he can jump into the job immediately......because as a politician, one has to know how to say things so that everybody thinks the nice things are about them.....or that nobody fully can understand.....

I read this blog and realized the first question should have been "why is Al Gore so popular in China". The nature of Al Gores politics and self-marketing efforts would not be complimentary to Chinese interests. Plus he has not accomplished near as much tangible humanitarian aid as someone like Jimmy Carter. Mostly he opens his mouth and others peoples work gets traslated into (at least in part) his own. He definitely does not lead by example as stated above. Imagine how much carbon he emits a year just in flights all over the place. I think this is where I do not understand Gores appeal, he does nothing himself (just coattails others endeavors) and is a very poor example. I am not sure that a disdain for this type of false self-promoting is necessarily a conservative view, since I am not so keen on Bush either. I would just like to see the real leaders who lead by example and work hard get the appropriate recognition, without sharing the limelight with con artists.

We have a breed of American called a "yellow dog democrat" that would support the democratic under any circumstance. Even if they were running against Santa Clause.

As far as "China respects Al Gore", I bet, more espionage happened during Al Gore's term than all the other US Presidents terms added together. (i.e. China is launching lunar probes now)

As far as Al Gore winning the Nobel Peace Prize...I think it is great. Famous Historical Peace Makers: Ghandi, Mother Teresa, Al Gore, Martin Luther King...

My take on this is that giving AG the award was an error of judgement on behalf of the committee, But it has helped highlight the problems we are facing as a global community! I don't care if they gave the award to Donald duck, the fact is that the human race is not pulling it's finger out of it arse to do something about the global problem of Starvation, Pollution, Illness, The list goes on! While there are people out there who are willing to take a stab at getting people to look at these problems, I say good luck to them, Help him out, don't shoot him down, give him the benefit of the doubt! I'm looking into biodiesel for fuel at the moment because I saw his film! He can't be all bad can he? Maybe he is an idiot, but I don't see you guys rushing up to be counted! The fact that AG is heading this campaign is nether here nor there! That's all I've got to say on the matter!
