What does your avatar NOT say about you?

01/02/2008 12:17 PM

In response to Guest's question about what does your avatar say about you, I'd like to know what they DON'T say about you. Is your avatar really a Freudian concoction designed to hide your true nature?

True, some avatars have established themselves as lovable(?) characters within the CR4 framework, and as such are looked up to as "gurus" in their own right. However, might it be that we're all being duped by their seemingly harmless facade? Is there a secret avatar society that lurks beyond the curtain, just waiting to "quickly descend from the trees"?

Are the avatar images that contain apparent photographs the real you or are they a subtle (stage) way to suggest what you want the world to see you as? Perhaps, a photo taken 20(?) years ago?

Just for the record, before someone jumps on my case, my avatar is probably the 3rd or 4th evolution of avatars. It really doesn't describe me a lot other than that it sort of expresses the competitive spirit that drives me. I do practice martial arts so maybe the avatar is not too far off base.

My avatar says that I am not a tuba player, I also do not play drums, piano, or anything in the woodwind section.

I suspected as much! Were you "instrumental" in this perhaps? If so, keep it up.

I'm a lover of all kinds of music, heavy metal excluded. I play a little "Country & Western" and am an ascribing student of clasical (beginner). Grew up with Hank Williams, Carter family, etc. In the last year or so I've sort of become addicted to the finer realms of music.

I'm firmly convinced that "music" is the driving force behind all that we do, whether we acknowledge it or not.

That's one thing that's not portrayed in my avatar.

I believe Steve said no tuba. Unless I'm mistaken, that's in the brass category.

I believe an aviator is very important because a picture is worth 1000 words. So I would just relax and light up a tube cigar.

Oh but you can! At least you can by your beautiful avatar. That is, of course, unless you have a broken wing?

Aside from the fact I've been riding almost 40 years. My avatar does not say a whole lot about me. I like exotic bikes, tattoos, photography, white water kayaking and scuba diving. I am whittled down to a single bike now and my avatar is not it. I just love the glass wheels and clean lines. I do not have a tattoo but love the art work behind it.

My avatar does not say that I am artistic (wish I were!), or into crop circles (kinda looks like one, doesn't it?). I drew it up in AutoCAD to keep my skills fresh and then converted it to a .gif file.

I'm waiting for 'Del the Cat' to come back from his holidays to get his comments!

The Cat is not on a holiday, he's just after some 'Jerry' in some other thread.

My Avatar is my inspiration. I am involved martial arts, jazz and blues (piano, keyboards, bass guitar), airplanes (fly one, building another), hotrods (69 Chevelle powered by a 650 h.p. 502 c.u. big block), work (contract engineer, solid rockets) and grandkids. Occasionally I quit working and we visit the unsuspecting (watch out Del !).

Re: What does your avatar NOT say about you?

I think the avatar IS the inspiration, not the person. That could mean all sorts of things but being a woman is not necessarily so. The avatar could depict a wife or daughter, and if Taejonkwando is old enough, maybe even a grand daughter.

You on the other hand, you are a gladiator and that is what is your picture if I am not mistaken.

Now for me, I am a cone-head and I am colour blind. I don't care what I look like, I know who I am.

I don't like political correctness or useless surveys. Also the avatar does not tell you my age, I do, if you ask... Ok 42.

What CAN it say about you? Well not that long ago I kindly asked a new member to consider changing his avatar as it was Adolf Hitler himself worked on with a photo touch-up program. I don't take offence but I thought others might so I pointed this out to him, he changed it immediately. That just shows that it can tell you something but it is not necessarily correct.

I have been blessed with 2 granddaughters and 4 grandsons. Each of my children and grand children inspire and often amaze me. No matter what I have accomplished in life they will exceed my limits in this world (some already have). I hope you someday will enjoy the delight in holding those tiny hands of your second generation's destiny. TK

Well done and thank you. I am somewhat behind you with a 14 year old, wonderfully witty and clever daughter. No doubt she will exceed me as she enjoys learning now, and has done all her life, whereas I hated it until I realised too late in life I needed knowledge to achieve.

Too young to predict any further generations as of yet.

No matter how big a guy you are, holding those little hands (or feet ) make you all soft inside. Best thing in my life ever but one is enough for now.

Re: What does your avatar NOT say about you?

This is a pic that I have carried for many, many years. I once new an extremely talented artist some 20 years ago and he had drawn an image very similar to this. About few years ago I came across this. It is also the inspiration for a rather large tattoo and resembles me strongly (sans wings of course).

What it does not say- That I am a father, a disciple, a son, a friend, and so very much more. However, I feel it says more about me than it does not, in many ways.
