If they are Quarter Turn Design valves an Air Cylinder and Valve works great in ambient temperatures above freezing.

Most valve manufacturers offer some sort of remote valve operator in their literature.

Dear Friend,

you may contact Limitorque - UK or Bifi - Italy for an pnematic actuator. ive them details of your valve and site conditions so that they acn suggest a suitable pneumatic actator. If elecrical is suitable then you may contact Bernard - French actuator manufacturer.

Good Luck

Q's

  • Do you want instant Shutoff-- or slow closing - full shutoff 30 seconds OK
  • Reopening manually after fault clearing-- OR remote controlled opening
  • Gas Pressure and Composition and Temp.

Please run a compressed air line from the ground (or suitable remote location), 6 Kg/Cm2, 100 mm dia, progressively stepping down to 25 mm dia, feeding an accumulator complete with FRL unit. Connect output of this accumulator to the Direction control valve of the Pneumatic actuation cylinder, driving the valve.Since it is a SHUT-OFF valve, it needs to be either a LUBRICATED TAPER PLUG VALVE or a BUTTERFLY VALVE and not just a regulating DAMPER Valve. Both the above Quarter-turn type valves can be actuated at high closing speeds (say 10-15°/second). You could also use a falling dead weight for shut off and raise it at liesurely speed during a non-emergency situation for repeating closing operation.

Please visit my website www.artecrobotics.com and send a detailed enquiry for getting a fully engineered solution including actuator design and mounting details.I have earlier designed and implemented a 2000 mm dia valve for an oil refinery to be used on its exhaust chimney with remote actuation and control.

Open a dialogue with the local friendly Valves Distributor. These sorts of people can advise and quote, either for the materials only, or the re-fit also.
