Hello cnpower

I have not been to Dubai, but have some friends who regularly visit there, and trucks laden with aggregate for building in the sea, were traffic-jammed for over 10km.

Because of oil depletion, Dubai is setting itself up to be a tourist destination.

Let's hope that no tsunami (seismic seawater wave) arrives to spoil the place.

Kind Regards....

See what you can do without any environmental impact reports

The EIA is written in the water (top photo post 1) for all to see!!

It might be worthwhile to comment on that.

I wonder for how many rise in ocean level they are responsible for?

You are correct! There is just no way we could do that here! Can you see for 1 minute all of the enviromental impact studies that would be required because of the endangerment of the "left finned snookie fish" or reduced habitat of the "spotted skunk fish"? MY GOD, WHAT A DISASTER! James

Looks like a terrific place to retire.

I hear it's the first liquor friendly zone, in the UAE.

Have you seen the new convention center / hotel plans?

Spiral Helix, in Structural Steel with Blue Glass. First of it's kind on the continent.

4.1 Billion served, in a 270 degree radius, from this hub; from the tip of India to the tip of South Africa. Most without a cell phone,... yet, (or a cocktail, on the rocks).

My business plan is to take over the little, red, swizzle-stick market, (secretly, of course).

Ummm, I think the price of crude at $101.00 a bbl is just a gift from our dear friends in Saudi and OPEC. Who was it that freed that little country that Iraq invaded, and who protected Saudi when Iraqi troops massed at the Saudi border? Who was it that spent $ billions to move armor and troops ( several countries) to Saudi to protect them? Does the King still have a 747 parked close to the palace ready for instant flight in case of "problems"? How much has the U. S. now spent in Iraq? I can't count that high!!

Those aren't actually buildings - they're man-made islands, althought there are some pretty impressive buildings in Dubai too (like the Burj for example)

I can't post images, because I'm not registered, but here is a satellite image of the palms and the world, Dubai which are the islands seen here (hover over the map half way down the page...)

Well i guess you are technically correct, though i think all the engineers understood them to mean structures. Sometimes we must interpret a little bit since not all the posters are perfectly fluent in american english, some use the queens english (actually most outside of the united states). So i believe they meant to say look at the impressive structures.

Hello Guest,

Why not register, as you seem to visit CR4 quite a lot, and it is difficult to establish which "Guest" you are.

Registration does bring m,any benefits.

Kind Regards....

From digital earth program, I was learned that they are all designed and built by a group of very younger engineers. they are wonderful. not simple.

I wonder how they calculate these huge building? I know these calculation is very complex.even aid with computer sotfware.

they need experiences in practice except theory.

Actually a lot of experience in the industry tends to stiffle innovative new concepts. Most engineering experience as you progress in career is more tending towards the profitability and risk reduction side of the business, not innovative designs tend to be costly, have lowered profits and increased risks. The engineers involved in such projects are lucky to have a principal that does not get too involved in the designs, or is still flexible enough to be able to allow deliverables that have up front such high risk and poor profitability associated with the project.
