Assuming that you live in an urban area and may not be allowed to do wind power.

A water geyser is a big user. Turn the temperature setting down by 10 deg C and try it until it is colder but still comfortable.

If you are allowed to do a solar heater get quotes and install one if it is viable. It has been noted in my area that prices are quite high. At that price it may not be a sound economic investment.

In general savings should be done on a basic level. switch of if you don't really need it or reduce your expectations. The eye get used to weaker light very easily.

Bad wasteful habits should be changed. My wife likes action when she cooks food and (she like to see water boiling) The same heat can be supplied to the food if the heat is turned down once it reaches the temperature.

Try replacing filament light bulbs with higher-efficacy units. Compact fluorescents? LEDs?

Turn OFF equipment you aren't using, such as TV computers etc...

My biggest saving was made by NOT leaving things on 'standby' ..

Likewise any mains adaptors charging things etc.... use them when you need them and then unplug them...

As said above use CFL and change your monitor from a CRT to a LCD low power model, especailly if your computer is on most of the day...

John.

When 2 of my children moved back in after school, and got jobs, I assigned household bills for them to pay. Since my daughter was the biggest waister of electricity, she got that bill. Now she goes around shutting things off and bitches out those that don't. She installed energy saving bulbs, motion detecting switches, and timers on the outside lighting.

These measures alone have reduced our electric bill by almost 20%!
