Winter and Depression

12/16/2008 1:48 AM

Why a cloudy and foggy day makes humans sad. What is the effect of winter on wild life?

The emotional effect of weather depends on where you are.

If you live in an arid area clouds means a possibility of rain, the darker the clouds the better.

Some animals and plants hibernate in winter, I don't think they mind.

In SA if there is an "R" in the month we Rest over lunch ("siesta")

There is a condition called Seasonal Affective Disorder which might account for what you describe.

No optimism and imagination on the individuals part. I look at clouds and see rain. Rain provides me water I need to survive. Don't have to buy it by the bottle. As of yet it comes down with no taxes applied. Yes as a child I enjoyed playing in the rain. Still do have no problem fishing all day in it.

Then there is the beauty of the storm. The lighting flashes or the earth blanketed in a coat of white, the smell of the air after.

As far as the wild life they learn to cope if they are to survive just a man has to.

TVP45 has given good reference for you.

There is allied question:

Is there any effect of Solar Eclipse on wild life. Any scientific study reference? I think there are many misconceptions based one what one feels. I want scientific references.

Thanks in advance.

Animals Hibernate and try to conserve energy, while we modern men are working and wasting energy during the winter.

It is our animalistic brain parts rebelling

Silly duck. Cats are not animals; they're spirit guides sent here by intelligent life-forms from a distant galaxy. Their purpose is to drive us insane, thus preventing our self-annihilation with WMDs.

More to the point they are here to slowly drive me to the poorhouse with vet fees. My cat hates me. It loves my wife. It's orange. It's ugly, it's scarred, it spits and it's missing an ear. Since it shredded my best leather jacket I've been trying to run over it with the car. For 17 years! No luck. Worse is that the barn is crawling with it's progeny....all orange!

Come to think of it I think you're right.

Yeah, I've heard about this phenomenon. There are different solutions to such troubles, for example, using medicine like cbd oil to have a nice sleep and to keep calm in different hard situations. It is necessary to check a lot of cbd oil reviews to understand is it good to use it in your individual situation or not.
