Strange and Wacky Company Names

01/26/2009 6:46 PM

Have you seen a Unique, strange, funny, or wacky company name recently?

I just stumbled on a company that makes industrial/commercial ceiling fans, they call themselves "Big Ass Fans"

I also recall seeing G.O.D painted on some delivery trucks, I believe it stands for "Guaranteed Overnight Delivery"

What have you seen?

In the middle of an Italian neighborhood in New Jersey ( USA ) there is a costume shoppe called "FUN GHOUL'S". This is the absolute truth. If you are as Italian as I am you will understand.

not so smart,

I'm not Italian in the least but if I saw that sign I might think it would be a place to get that green stuff between my toes looked at.

A local GP has the surname "Death" (pronounced Deeth) and that has raised eyebrows for some years. He also has personalised liscence plates for his car "DEATH".

Another doctor (optometrist) is Dr Payne (pronounced pain). He apparently wanted to be a dentist earlier in his studies.

(Over the years there have been multiple puns implied by commedians around the world, but these two are real, if you doubt, then see white pages Australia, postcode 2430.)

Best (but fictitious) name for a company was on an episode of MST3K.

The movie showed a location shot of a generic dull gray business building. Somebody quipped: "Welcome to Stifle JoyCo.

I always worry about flying Virgin: I mean who wants to fly with an airline that won't go all the way.

Hi, RV717!

This is in honour of the Chinese new year. Kung Hey Fat Choi, everybody!

We have a thriving Chinese community in Toronto. And, of course they have a great sense of humour (or they probably wouldn't live here!).

Some no kidding Chinese business names in town are:

Hung Fat Restaurant

Wong Wei Construction, and

Wing On Funeral Home.

On the highway from Tulsa, OK to Coffeyville, KS, you pass a propane dealership named "Burns Propane". I presume Mr. Burns to be the owner...

There used to be a cleaners called "Blackett Cleaners". I assume it was named after the owner. There is a hair salon named "The Cut Above". My former dentist was Mr. Galbreath. We used to have an auto parts store named "Highway Auto". It was often confused with "Midnight Auto".

The hairdressers are legendary for their bizarre names. Worst I've seen is "Hair Today Gone Tomorrow"

In bleaker times I once spent a whole day reading the phone book, to see if I could spot the phonies: B. Strange, B.Fair, I. Malone... Best are the ones with addresses: C. Marsh on Valleyview . B. McGory on Stabb Court.

I wanted my wife, who is a hairdresser, to open a barber shop in the nearby German holiday resort and call it "Herr Kutz"!

I remember a car body spare parts supplier called "frankenstein body parts"

An old family friend named Sargent was in the Korean War. He was a Major. Anyone can become a Sergeant-Major I suppose, but he's the only Major Sargent they had!

Longenecker Chiropractic is one of my favorites, don't know if they still exist but they were in Irving, Texas when I was 'younger'...

There used to be a theatrical supply company called BASH, we refered to them as Bring Additional StageHands because their cases were so massive it would take twice the number of people to move compared to almost every other similar company.

Sapulpa, Oklahoma used to have an independent drive-in restaurant called the Gay Note. This was when the word still had its original meaning. The owner had been a musician in a ragtime band years earlier. Across town was Carl's Pig Stand, a barbecue place.

Now the area has a few Kum 'N' Go convenient stores.

Tulsa has a restaurant that specializes in Buffalo wings. It's called The Right Wing. I believe they import the original sauce from the place in Buffalo where the wings started.

Tulsa used to have a chain of hot dog stands called Der Wienerschnitzel. And a pizza place called My Pi.

The name of the company I work for has a quirk. If Star Training Institute ever changed into an outfit that does research into weather modification, they would only have to move one letter and change the capitalization. Wouldn't have to change their URL at all.
