Is This a UFO?

05/28/2009 4:32 PM

I'm not kiding here, in one of the recent Balloon flights, one of the onboard cameras caught something off in the distance that we can not figure out what it may be. here is the shot from the payload.

It's pretty far off in the distance, so physically it's quite large then. that shot was taken at about 80,000 feet. At first we thought it might be a polyethylene balloon, but it doesn't have the correct appearance.

Another fellow shot on a different day from the ground these shots.

even these somewhat look like a poly balloon, but then again NOT I have flown hundreds of these, and i never seen one that looks like that.

Anyone have any idea?

All these were also not in the usual balloon areas New mexico, Arizona, Texas etc. this was in Colorado.

Its unidentifiable from these photos and its in the air floating or flying who knows. So it fits in the UFO category so yes.

NSS Your first photo appears to be a lightning bolt rising up from a thunderstorm. The rest of the photos I believe to be something entirely different. Jerrell

"Beat it" whanker. (I couldn't resist that).

If it wasn't for the (apparent) size, I would say it 'could be' a weather balloon whos top has partially collapsed and become twisted in a wind shear condition.

Howsomever, if aliens are smart enough to make it this far, a cloud or cloud-like camouflage would keep the subjects from being unduly startled. And I have seen small clouds exhibit erratic behavior in relation to other nearby clouds.

That said; See the movie '2012', followed by 'The Bruce' in 'Armageddon'. Maybe they're here to observe our demise. I'll worry about it when they start raiding the garden.

How about like a tornado...a particular atmospheric condition which gives rise to a vapourous cloud in a small tight rotating formation. what you need are thermal differences, maybe a jetstream, and an updraft of heat... I dunno. was it moving horizontally? or stationary?

Sprites?

Umm, not sure the tech term/name

When you get a lightning storm, it has been observed (from space) not just lightning from cloud to ground, but also what looks like from the same cloud to the Magnetosphere (??) or some place up high?

could the other shots be something similar to this, but from refraction/reflection from the atmosphere/space barrier?

Yes it is an UFO [unidentified flying object], because if one knew what it was, it wouldn't be an UFO. That is the definition of an UFO!

Abbreviations. Bah!

The Unidentified Object does not appear to be flying, since no lifting surfaces are apparent; therefore, I would call it a UO.

Whats the "Lifting surface" on a hot air balloon?

You don't need lifting surfaces to fly, just enough thrust,

"Anything can be made to fly with enough thrust"

Oh, sorry, I think there is a technical difference between flying (as a bird, glider, etc.) and floating, as in lighter-than-air devices. Agreed... there are different methods of moving through space (gaseous or not) via different means of propulsion. Perhaps, I was being too technical.

At first glance, it appears a kind of contrail, or chemtrail.

I found this link with some photos, but at a glance, it does appear some form of vapor ... discharged from what??? Well, now, that is the question.

Kind regards ...

Maybe they're contrails seen in perspective (so not as vertical as they appear). I wonder if any aircraft burn fuel for short periods, or, maybe there was a "layer" of slightly dodgy fuel in one of the tanks.

At the bottom of the link you supplied there's an invite to submit a question: I've asked them to take a look at this thread and comment if possible.

Few people know that the planet realy do hang on strings -like in the old science fiction movies- what you see here is the place where the string attaches,

In the photo's the plume appears to be running against the bands of clouds. These pictures raise as many questions as they answer. I for one will be following the discussion, there has to be a credible explaination!

Re: Is This a UFO?

of course UFO's do not exist, we have been told that for years. But, at one time in our history we were also told the world was flat. This was held as truth by scholars and laymen alike. I think what the real truth is, no one likes questions that do not have a proven answer. All you have to do is look at the 20th century at the strides forward in areas that only a few years earlier would have been thought impossible. So yes I know UFO's do not exist, and if I keep looking for them I might fall of the edge of the earth. But what if there are??

I don't know who said it first, but, this/these quotes pretty well sum up the enormity of the main question.

"Sometimes I think we're alone in the universe, and sometimes I think we're not. In either case the idea is quite staggering" Arthur C. Clarke

"Sometimes I think we're alone. Sometimes I think we're not. In either case, the thought is staggering." R. Buckminster Fuller

UFO has become a synonym for "extra-terrestrial flying object", whereas this is not necessarily the case by definition. The problem with English as a sproken language is that TLAs [three-letter abbreviations] trip merrily off the tongue far easier than FLAs [four-letter abbereviations].

All in favour of the abbreviation ETFO, please join the queue on the left.....
