Neither, I dress from the bottom up.

Could you perhaps elaborate a little on the question as it is unclear and open to interpretation (is it about left or right handed people?)

Re: Do you dress left or right?

I remember a short novel about a guy having his vacation in a remote place. He met another solitaire guy, and they have had a few hours together, playing chess (or whatever). The first guy was wearing a glorious beard. Before they went, each on his way, to bed, the second guy asked the first one how is he sleeping. Facing up replies the first one. The second asks again: how you keep your beard - under the blanket or over the blanket?

Well, that question put the first one in difficulty, he couldn't answer it, on the spot. In fact, all night long he couldn't answer that simple question: how is he keeping the beard, on or under the blanket.

So SIR, nice try, but no cigar. I am not going to answer this (subtle) question of yours

I am well balanced so I dress down the middle.

I am well built so I dress, um... "Above average" I have been told!

That is if I am understanding the question to be from the old contexts of which way you dress of course.

Otherwise its underwear, socks, pants, shirt, shoes.

Yes, but is it 'up' or 'down' ? This whole topic could be of huge importance to makers of undergarments, so I'm only asking in the name of clarification for the greater good

If it's a bad day & it's down, do we then take it that you're going commando? The alternatives would seem to me to be 1) Left, 2) Right, or 3) Tucked under .

I wear boxers. If you have never worn boxers you dont understand the freedoms that come with it. Its probably why I am not as up tight and defensive as some people seem to be for no obvious reasons.

Is is just me or do we seem to be getting more overly sensitive and opinionated guests on the site lately?

Is someone here to ashamed to speak for them self while having their name attached to their comments?

Maybe they just need to get better fitting underwear so they can dress in a more unconfined fashion. Seem to me some guests posts show that they may have their undies pulled in way to tight lately.

FYI, I also wear boxers (about 8 days out of 10). Still find there's a parity issue.

How on earth can it be sexists..?
The thread makes no reference to the fairer sex..
It might be sexist if we (men & small furry mammals) started asking the ladies puerile questions about which breast was heavier.
Now look what you made me do!

Re: Do You Dress Left or Right?

02/01/2010 9:32 PM

I can't really say, I don't remember. That sounds so cryptic; I should explain.

Years ago, I had this medical problem, every afternoon I got a stitch in my right side. As time went on, the pain would spread up through my body and include my right shoulder and as more time went by it grew progressively worse. I consulted several specialists before I found one who had the least idea what was going on. He told me that he didn't know the cause, but he could fix the symptoms but he hesitated to tell me. I demanded an answer so he told me that the only answer he had was castration, it would end the daily pains. Obviously, I said no, but the pain got worse and locked up my right side, my right arm and my neck. I gave in and had the surgery, the pain immediately stopped but I was sad for the loss of that part of my privates. A hospital social worker come shrink advised me that as I was starting a new phase in life, I should change other parts as well, sort of, "out with the old", start with a new wardrobe. I bought some clothes, but I always fancied a bespoke suit so I went to a good tailor. I picked out material and the style for the suit and the tailor asked me a bunch of questions about my preferences which, I answered until he asked on which side I dressed. I told him that it didn't matter but he insisted, I said again that it didn't matter and he said, "It's vital that we get this right, otherwise you can get a pain that starts out like a stitch and gradually spreads up the side of the body.......

True, it is a very old joke, but it is also a very good one. I posted it because so many posters didn't understand the OP, which meant, they wouldn't have come across the joke. Some still don't understand, even after more than 120 responses.

Your gonna laugh at this tale.

But I gave some conscious thought about this on a plane trip to Atlanta early last year.

I realized I was a right hand dresser, the right sock, right shoe, and right sleeve buttons came first always. (anywhere there was a choice).

So being the tinker I am, I wondered what it would be like to reverse the process.

And then, I forced myself to dress left, but the minute I didn't think about it, even after several months of conscious effort, I reverted back to right.

Did I come up with any findings?

Yes, I did, i was just thinking like a doddering old tinker.

Damned if I know - never paid attention. I do, however. always put my underpants on before the pants, my undershirt before the shirt (in the winter - no undershirt in the summer), and I always put my socks on before my shoes. I don't believe I've ever missed in those orders...

This really got me lookin' at myself, I'm right handed but: I "dress" my watch left, right sock always first. Shorts, either right or left depending on which way I lean or in which hand I'm holding my shorts that morning. If I open the cupboard with my left or right this also makes a difference as to the hand I'll use to grab my clothes. it goes on but I can't seem to really identify whether I dress left or right, except for the watch & sock & they are left and right so does that make me !!! BIPOLAR ???.

I'm also right handed & wear my watch on my left. Opening cupboards or any other doors depends on which side they are hinged.

A question was asked in the newspaper last week, why do right handed guitar players hold the guitar in the 'normal' way, leaving their left hand to make the more complicated movements?

I put my left leg in pants/shorts first

I put put my left arm in t-shirt first, then right, then head.

I put my right arm in button shirt first

I put my coat on right arm first.

I put my left sock on first

I put my put my right boot/shoe on first

I put my glasses on the front of my head

I wonder if I was visiting Australia if I would do everything opposite?

Right leg or arm in first to all clothing articles. When dressed, everything is symmetrical, apart from my left hip which is lower than my right due to uneven leg lengths.

To answer Del's questions, I don't know, I haven't spent time on developing an accurate method to measure such a difference...

What is this project yo're working on Garthh? Seeing how many people on an open forum will reveal intimate details about themselves?

And on which side to you dress?

Unfortunately, it's so automatic that I don't think about it. If I do think about it beforehand, then I won't know what I would have done if I hadn't been thinking about it. It's like asking a bowler what he does with his other hand - it's sure to throw him off his game.

Have you viewed an ArmedForces parade. When marching Which step they take first?

I put all my clothing, washing etc start from right.

Step from right,

but remove from left.

Sleep start on right side

Muslims have a normal habit to start from Right

walking around "Kaabah" from right [counterclockwise].

But driving in Pakistan is by-the-Left & turn to left when changing route.

Step in home or mosque with right foot but exit by left foot.

Say "Compliments in a gathering to the person on my right side before to the person on my left.

Almost most of the muslims have the same habit.

One question why? I know Muslims eat with the right hand and perform other `funtions` with the left hand, but why was the right hand choosen, arent both hands the same?

Regards.

Our Prophet teached us to dine with right hand to do so.

The ABlution in toilet is with left hand & after coming out with right hand.

**************

Ablution:

1. The ritual washing of a priest's hands or of sacred vessels [Of course this be done with Right hand even by Muslims]

2. [S.Africa] A toilet that is available to the public [And we tanslate "Wudhu" in toilet; washng the privates with water after cleaning with a dry item like toiletpaper as Ablution]

UGH!!!!!

Men who have not had the foreskin removed have the same problem (maybe not the Bean!)....Its sometimes called F***skin Cheese.....HORRIBLE!!!

Now men who have been circumcised have something better to offer their Ladies.

I copied the following interesting infos from this website:-

benefits of circumcision

HIV and AIDS

Circumcised men have up to 60% lower incidence of HIV infection. The explanation for this is similar - the prepuce has a large number of target cells for the virus. Moreover, being prone to tearing during unprotected sex, a torn or abraded foreskin provides an easy route for the virus to enter the body. Says Professor Roger Short of Melbourne University's department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, "Circumcision's protective effect has been proven beyond doubt. Removing the foreskin removes the main site of entry of HIV into the penis."

Cancers of the reproductive tract

Cervical cancer (cancer of the neck of the womb) was for many years noted to be uncommon in women belonging to ethnic and religious groups where men were circumcised. Today we know that this type of cancer of the female reproductive tract is associated with infection by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) - and surveys have shown that uncircumcised men are three times more likely to carry the HPV organism. Having regular sex with uncircumcised men therefore allows the woman to be infected with HPV - and interestingly, recent research studies show over 50% reduction in the risk of cervical cancer among women whose sexual partners are circumcised.

Thanks. I shall be making recommendations to all the men I know.

Gee, Andy...guess you don't know me too well!!!! ROTFPMSL

Well, yes, that is the age old dilemma, isn't it? To cut or not. When I had my son, it was one of the toughest decisions to make (I had already had my daughter, so the "drugs or natural" dilemma had already been solved...DRUGS!) There were so many good arguments on both sides!

So, of course, to counter your (brilliant) post, I had to go here...

NOW, see if you can watch Cheers with a straight face again!

Your link...but why? "Things" are so much better when they're out in to open.

I know which I prefer.

Re: Norm's keeping his bits, alright?

02/04/2010 6:31 PM

I know which I prefer too - and I'm keeping mine! Had it been stolen when I was small, I wouldn't know what I was missing, and I don't suppose I'd bother about getting myself "normed"'

Gives me something to play with.

No smeggy problems if washed often enough.

"Things" are happy to come out to join in the fun as & when required.

Nice bit of extra protection (heavens above - it's not just a spare wrinkle! Why the f(expletive severed)uck is/was it there in the first place? OK, the vermiform appendix has maybe overstayed its welcome, but if there was that much advantage in not having a foreskin, wouldn't Darwin's theory have a bit of an effect?

They don't dock animal's tails any more - how can circumcision be justified? I think it's just as cruel.

Sorry, Rose, not having a go at you - it's the whole idea.

Open question (obviously directed to the male respondents): Who has had themselves "docked" of their own volition? Who when they were old enough to remember? Why? and are they 100% happy with the result?

Re: Norm's keeping his bits, alright?

Why is it there?

I pondered that (briefly) while posting yesterday. If Darwin's to be believed (and why wouldn't he be no, I'm not aiming to get in to that debate), then we need to look at the "lower" animals - most of whom carry their penis (most with penile bones - there's a thread about that somewhere) inside their body, for most of the time. Having a shorthaired male cat who's about 9 months, it's something I've had thrust <she said...> to my attention lately.

As for the evolutionary pressure to "remove" it - there is none. The problems it causes occur after childbirth. Evolutionarally and "continuation of the species"-ally, who cares what happens to individuals after they've procreated? And if the horse notes I posted are correct, the act of procreation cleans the article (oh thanks lads, that's just bl00dy wonderful!).

My first bf had to have his removed as a small boy - about 5 yo if I remember the story correctly - due to infection. The thing he remembers most is the doctor separating it from the "internals" when examining him. Being without never bothered him, apart from the ribbing<...> he received when at school for being different. [See girlies can answer the question - by proxy, at least!]

Re: Do You Dress Left or Right?

For me, it varies from day to day. There are many variables that change each day of the week and on weekends. Some are which hand I grab my socks off of the table, am I holding anything else. Do I grab my coat and gloves first that morning? Do I put my shoes on my left side or my right side? Are the dogs in the way? Am I sitting on my bed or standing when I put my pants on (sitting it is both legs at same time)? And the variables list goes on.

Today, it was right arm for shirt, left leg for pants, left sock and right shoe. Yesterday, it was right leg for pants, left arm for shirt, right sock and right shoe. I am right handed and watch is on my left wrist.

I am amazed just how many never understood the question......

The old, old Joke should have helped, I would have thought, but obviously not. Lets hope its not true for those who did not understand the question.......

For everyone (male) here who did not understand the question fully, its a question as to whether your penis hangs down the left or the right hand side of your trousers/pants/underwear!!!! eg. Which way is the most comfortable for long periods....?

Buttons to the right; buttonholes to the left would be traditional for a gentleman's shirt. A lady's blouse goes the other way.

The reason?

Gentlemen used to dress themselves while ladies used to have a maid help them. The arrangement described makes it easier for right-handed persons, which are more numerous than left-handed ones, to do the buttons up.

It has become a standard based upon tradition.

ANDY has it right. When trousers were tailored, the question "do you dress right or left?" would be asked by the tailor so he could add a little more room on that leg of the trousers.

Left

Right Handed

North America

There does seem to be a hand-side correlation here - I think...

As for the original question - I almost died laughing at the amount of time it took everyone to catch on to what was being asked, and how many blatant references were being ignored. Someone had to come out with the P-word before 40% of the audience caught on to the question!

I guess only those of us who are old-timers understand. Kids don't dress like the rest of us used to.

Holy crap - I am getting old! I just referred to the under 30 set as "kids"!

As a Doorman, I have been asked many times to evaluate how well things were hung...

uuuhhh... hmmmmmm....

Not quite sure what to write in my report about this one...

I guess I would report "One for Dress Left".

Ouch. Never thought I'd see a camel toe on a guy. Hope I never do again.

DANGER DANGER!!!!!

Several inmates of the BBT have escaped and were last seen headed in this vicinity.

If you encounter one, DO NOT make any sensible comments, or misleading remarks.

These people are extremely unstable, and any contact may lead to contagious silliness.

Do NOT approach, encroach, cockroach, smoke roach, poach, gauche (OK, I'm reaching...) or any other 'oach'!!!
