Do You Dress Left or Right?

02/01/2010 11:51 AM

I'm doing an informal poll for a project I'm working on.

Please post what part of the world you are from also

It is said that a left handed man will wear his watch on his right hand. It is also said that a wallet in the right pocket means a man dresses left and vice versa.

Both are true for this Texan.

I also carry my wallet in my right pocket and am right handed. I think the wallet thing might also go back to the handed thing. Might be useful information to get out of this survey. If right handers dress left you know immediately how the majority of people (all races and creeds) dress.

I dunno about all this - a right hander, I carry my wallet on the left. Think it's so that when I pull the thing out, I can extracate notes with my right hand. Keys are in the right pocket. This thread has got me so confoozed

Dress left - right handed - wallet in right hand back pocket or left hand inside jacket pocket - watch on right wrist - keys on belt clip or in pocket to right - change (coins) rh pocket - diary lh pocket - baccy & Rizlas lh - lighter rh - torch rh - pens pencils comb phone lh breast <he said ...> - screwdrivers lh back - socket set lh - tyre levers rh jacket - shotgun lh jacket - cement mixer won't fit. OK I lied after the pens & stuff.

This is so wrong....I generally keep snot-rags in my back pocket. Hold on....I'll do a check.....yes - wallet in front right pocket. Keys, and some tissue I shoud have disposed of in the left. Round back, it's tissues on one side and nothing on the other. It's currently lying in the normal position (left), which I think is the norm for me, but it isn't the kind of thing I log in my diary.

Re: Do You Dress Left or Right?

As a young man, I had a (bad) habit of knocking watches to pieces when on the left hand (I am right handed by the way).

I (still) put it down to the fact that a right handed person is better or more aware of where the walls are with respect to the right, rather than the left hand......the watches were cheap ones too which probably did not help......

I then started at 13 to wear watches on the right hand and have never damaged one since! That is about 50 years ago!! I think I broke 3 before swapping....and in those days I had to wind them up each day, but at 17 in Singapore, I bought my first automatic Seiko....

My package is to the left...my jacket, right sleeve first. I might then consider my navel as the equator.

Right on !

OK, I'm, a 'righty' but Southpaw do get a bit of a bad deal. 'Sinister', 'left behind', all these things conjure to make life tricky for them. Astute readers will know that Ned Flanders is a Southpaw, and he's going to Heaven. Jus sayin . last time I visited ther pub, I was too embarrased to look see which hand blokes were using. It's not exactly the kind of thing you can try to observe without getting smacked in the gob.

As god is my witness, I though he was asking whether you put your right arm in your shirt, then the left arm, etc. You think you'd have sympathy for blokes like me who never make it to the fork in the road.

I am yours to instruct. Don't be too harsh; I am but a callow youth, eager to learn the ways of the world.

Perhaps we might dally in the lea, sipping claret while I read Browning aloud, or drift lazily down the canal in a punt, hiding neath gaudy silk parasols?

and we'll tie up the punt in the shadow of a willow....

Not sure I entirely agree....

Is this one of those "what's wrong with this picture" things? Or, wait...a 3D image? If I stare at it long enough, will a T Rex pop out?
Where the F*CK is Waldo?

I'm a-goin' back to the BBT....

You are very honest and certainly not alone if the truth be known!!!!!!

In these days of "off the peg" suits, I guess it doesn't matter!!!

But if you get the "pains" previously mentioned, you should go and get measured up and not buy "off the peg".....

Hangs to the right. unzip with the right so I can pull it out with the left. That would be the proper hand as it is not the one generally offered in greeting.

I really am curious as to why you wish to know.

Firstly, may I say welcome back to English Rose. I see to have not seen you around much recently...

By the way, there appears to be many men who STILL have not quite understood the question.......

Thank you Andy <curtsey> I've been back about a year, but don't often get out of the Bath....but I've found the towel and am roaming at will (and TVP it seems!)

Such innocence in ones so old....

Re: Do You Dress Left or Right?

02/05/2010 5:30 PM

I am really surprised at just how selfish some men are, or should I say, its a constant surprise to me.......

It is a fact that women married to non circumcised men get cervical cancer because of a particular virus (or whatever) that uncircumcised men can get and carry in their foreskin.

This was first noted many years ago that wives of particular religious groups where male circumcision is practised, suffer many times less with such cancers......

It is also a fact that the prepuce makes a man several times more likely (if sleeping with many different partners) to get HIV and all its consequences.....

You would expect that there would be a huge long queue of men waiting to get the operation!!! Just for their wives and girlfriends alone......let alone a 3-5 times better protection against HIV!!!

No, they make "smeggy" jokes about having something to "play" with.......why should I appear surprised? 99% of men think only of their own comfort......I certainly do NOT believe that the uncircumcised men ALWAYS use a condom......what about when they want to have children for example....

AND I CERTAINLY don't believe that all men are scrupulously clean and disinfect their "pride & joy" each day against that virus........getting most men to wash their hands after visiting the toilet is beyond most of them, I see that daily when visiting toilets in buildings or on motorways etc..Badly brought up people.

A female colleague I knew at my last company said that the women generally were no better, not that it helps at all!!!........

Most people do not realize that colds, flu and diarrhoea (to name but a few) are mostly caught by not washing the hands correctly.....hand washing correctly brings a major barrier into play against such diseases (as already fully discussed on CR4!)

"It is also a fact that the prepuce makes a man several times more likely (if sleeping with many different partners) to get HIV and all its consequences....."

OK, chop it off if you're just going to keep sleeping around. NOT MY WAY.

"You would expect that there would be a huge long queue of men waiting to get the operation!!! Just for their wives and girlfriends alone......let alone a 3-5 times better protection against HIV!!!"

I refer the honourable gentleman to my earlier answer.

"No, they make "smeggy" jokes about having something to "play" with.......why should I appear surprised? 99% of men think only of their own comfort......I certainly do NOT believe that the uncircumcised men ALWAYS use a condom......what about when they want to have children for example...."

Andy, I think you have a lot of good stuff to say - sometimes - but in this case I think you should just get your head out of your fundamental orifice, lighten up, and not exist in an ugly imaginary world (of your own creation) where every man has such a base existence as you propound. Or are you just trying to impress us all with (unspoken) tales of how many times you go out shagging different women?

I find your "holier than thou" attitude utterly abhorrent.

Re: Do You Dress Left or Right?

I have to admit I personally had no choice in the "matter", I was "done" when I was less than a year old (I was much later told!), both my father and my brother were also "cut".....

But there are certain interesting facts that have been known for many years (but not the actual medical condition/reason behind them) for very many years.

By the way, its not a "holier than thou" attitude from me, because today, as I just mentioned, its a proven medical fact that women who are married to men with HPV are more likely to get Cervical Cancer......as uncut men are more likely to carry/retain HPV.

Each of you will continue his life as he sees fit, but after reading this blog, better informed about this taboo subject!! I have also leant a lot more....

(Thought I would like to mention at this point that not all forms of HPV are dangerous to women partners, the lower numbers tend not to be dangerous, but numbers above 10 generally are...By the way I forgot to mention, HPV also has a number associated with it!.....)

But many men simply simply do not want to "go down that road" and tend get upset if this is in any way/form pointed out to them......please calm down and think logically for a moment!

Its like in Rome, they tended to kill messengers who brought bad tidings, it appears to be similar on CR4!!

I put it to you all that if women had some unimportant bit of their anatomy that could give men cancer of say the Testicles, you can be damn sure of 2 things (not the Testicles!), but that many women would even pay or insist to have it removed and their men would also be insisting on it being removed too!!!

CC is a disease that if not entirely preventable, can be severely reduced according to many doctors....

I would liken men having HPV as being similar to Russian roulette (to lighten things up a bit!!)....different sort of Pistol though?

Here is some further reading for those who are interested:-

Thanks for your comments AG, there's good info there.

Your comments on reciprocity are well made - like the classic comments that if men menstruated, there would have been practical ameliorations a long time ago. It's only since women got into the workplace (other than single women as secretaries) and into design functions that the practicalities have been more adequately addressed.

John's comment about "behaving the gentleman" is also pertinent in the subject of spreading diseases. I hesitated to mention it earlier, but it is a fact that if all were monogamous (whether that involves matrimony or not) then these diseases would not be spread.

Reality is that this will not happen.

Maybe true for many, but please don't (you or Andy) tar everyone with the same brush.

I was not "tarring everyone" with the same brush, I was bringing infos to anyone's attention who was interested. No more no less.

You obviously felt you were the target and reacted, but I did not pick on anyone in particular.......I supplied infos and my personal take on people who ignore the problems....

You did not need to post at all!! Then you are out of the equation......

John, we agree on so many other things on CR4, we can surely agree to disagree on this one point I feel without any "permanent damage"!

Pax?

PS. I am a complete believer in parity at all levels between the sexes....I am also the Father of two daughters....

Both are really "Powerful" Ladies and one is studying in Frankfurt Uni to be an Engineer and the other is working in a major Bank in the internal computer department.....I am proud of them both.

"You obviously felt you were the target and reacted ..."

Had you not included the line:

"No, they make "smeggy" jokes about having something to "play" with..."

quoting me twice, it would have seemed less like you were targeting me.

I don't want to fall out John, but I can't let an accusation like that lie. I'm not "tarring everyone" with that brush. I didn't say, nor imply, that everyone was out <....>ing everyone else, but rather that I could not see a future where everyone would be monogamous - an entirely different logical proposition, as I am confident you understand. It allows for a proportion to behave in a monogamous (or celibate) manner, which I know they do now.

You hinted at your attitude in an earlier post (honourable gentleman), and it seems to gel with mine. I understand your frustration - I am insulted when people assume I'm "easy", or whatever term one prefers, when that behaviour is contrary to my own beliefs/values/moral set. I'll not bore everyone details.

Nothing I said was aimed at you personally - I thought we were having a discussion on how certain diseases are spread and ways in which the spread could be reduced.

Pax.
