How long is this bow which I've just finished?
Cherry belly, Ash back, Waterbuffalo nocks.
A Gooz card to the nearest

(I'll accept imperial or metric, but none of those darned intergalactic or squirrel units)

Okay, looking hard at the photo and considering this this is a full grown kitty, then that would make the thing about 50cm. Assuming Del's not pulling our legs again.

Okay, 50cm=19.54". However, I do believe you said it was a whole number of inches. And I think someone already said 20 inches. Hmmmmm..... 18"

It's something Hendrik (the guy in South Africa who has a pet Lion) coined ages ago a 'Get out of Zimbabwe' card.

Did I miss something here? You previously posted a pic of you drawing on a bow that has to be 70" or better in length?

Just one more question before I take my "gooz" card and bow out of this forum. For a full-sized English longbow, would 80" be excessive? Assuming a 72" tall yeoman?

The best data we have for medieval longbows (Warbows) is from the Mary Rose, Henry VIII's warship recovered from the silt of the Solent off Portsmouth. The bows were all from just over 6' to just under 7' in length, estimated draw weights approx 110- 150lb. (some people estimate even higher)
I have seen archers drawing 130lb longbows, (I can pull 90lb)

I dusted off my slide rule, changed the batteries in my calculator, and removed the rust from my calipers. And the best figure I can come up with is 2 months of nights and weekends.

Miniature Bow Performance Update! Pics!

02/15/2010 2:22 PM

I shot it at one of those mini tonic cans (any excuse for a G&T doncha know)

I havn't fletched the arrow yet, I've got to look out for some small feathers.
Here's the arrow head, which I made by drilling a hole in a piece of nail (nice soft steel) and then filing it to shape (I epoxied it onto a pice of rod to allow me to hold it while filing).

I reckon that should stop any mice even if they make armour from old beer cans.
