I don't know if they are available in India, but in the UK there are several Radio Controlled Model magazines, 'RCM&E' is one of them, any good news agent should have suitable magazines.

Entering 'simple radio control for airplanes' into Google brings up tons of stuff.

A simple 3 channel basic radio control transmitter (tx), receiver (rx) and 3 servos should get you started, this sort of kit is relatively cheap these day and is good and reliable, not like 30 years ago when it was comparatively expensive. (it's not really worth trying to build your own tx/rx and servos these days)
Have fun.

Regulations differ from country to country, as do insurance requirements:

  • There are aeromodelling clubs in many places. Try going to the nearest one and pick people's brains.
  • Take out a subscription to an aeromodelling monthly magazine. The information within them will prove invaluable.
  • Find someone else locally that is doing the same thing and talk to that individual. A long-term friendship may result!

I have never actually done this so don't give this posting any more value than "just a suggestion".

If your plane is "built from scrap" then there is probably a risk that your aerodynamics might need a little adjusting before you use engine power and "fly right or crash hard". AFTER adding radios, servos, and anything else you are adding I suggest you consider having someone help you by tossing the plane as a glider over a field of long grass. The flight will only be a few seconds long. If the flight is straight and controlled then you will feel pretty good about powered flight. If the plane can not be controlled or is too nose high/low (or other problems) then you hopefully won't do too much damage with a soft crash in tall grass. Once you start powered flight then any flight that is not a good flight might end up being a very bad flight (destroyed airplane).

This is some pretty good advice.

I built a few string and RC planes (years ago). I did not have anyone to advise me, and I did not do as you suggest here. As I recall, it went sort of like this:

Slightly more than 50 years ago I was also building and flying model planes, gliders and wire control.

The RC unit was far above my budget therefore had to DEY (Do Everything Yourself),..

I had a wire recorder left behind for broken by a traveling drama group, which a fixed by beginners luck. The thing could transmit.

I had a radio receiver (made from a kit) using a IT4 (me think) and earphones.

I could not figure out how to convert a RF signal to control so I devised this plan.

The reed assembly of a harmonica was placed above the coils of the earphone with contacts leading to solenoids just next to the tip of the reed.

The Idea was to transmit the sound of a trumpet and have the reed showing the highest harmonic response activate the solenoid. It was working and it was possible to go up, down, left and right (by playing 3 blind mice & run).

The maiden flight was a disaster , All the reeds vibrated once the engine were running.

Lesson : Rather buy a RC unit or a toy with a RC unit.

"air plane model from scrap" did you mean scratch?

There could be quite a difference.
