World Starving Millions

08/21/2010 9:04 AM

if every household in the uk made a fruit cake to spare and left it at a collection point we could help the worlds starving populations and cause a shortage in dried fruit for the uk! but

The harvest is plenty the workers are few ?

You could try, but honestly speaking, how many people will acually want to eat fruitcake unless they were literally starving to death?

[1] "let them eat cake"

Why else do you think the peasants beheaded her? She tried to feed them with fruitcake, and that finally drove them over the edge and caused them to revolt.

This would relieve the serious shortage of doorstops worldwide

Isn't 'fruit cake to spare' redundant?

Who would perform the quality control on the fruit cakes? Some of the fruit cakes I have seen (and been given) could potentially be better used as weapons than as food.

If you sent them as gifts to the starving millions what is likely to happen is they will do exactly what everyone else does when they receive a home-made fruit cake, keep it unopened, make a note of who it came from and then give it away a year later to a different person. A bit like the Monty Python wife swapping sketch but with fruit cakes.
