Tired of Being Ripped Off or Scammed!

09/29/2010 7:37 AM

I went to the hardware store to get some-kind of driveway paint and almost fainted when i saw price. Then i thought to myself I've got all kinds of paint spills on my driveway i can't get off with gas or thinner or whatever and only way would be to sandblast. So here's what I'm thinking...I know the stains are cheap no name brand paints so why don't i just buy that kind, in my driveway color and cover up the eyesore stains with that.? The guy at store says ''oh, that will chip off really fast...etc..What a bunch of bull! then why i asked him aren't the paint stains from cheap paint staining my driveway for years and years gone and chipped away? He did not know? Yea ,right! So i bought the cheap dark gray flat interior kind because exterior semi gloss would be to slippery to walk on.And i know most of stains are from paint projects done inside anyway or something brought out on drive and painted. And i will let you know how it holds up.What do you think??

Why not use a pressure washer to remove the stains? Tri-sodium Phosphate (TSP) cleaner could also be used. If you were going to paint you'd need to clean/prep the surface first anyway.

H#LL no I don't work for one of those stores.

My pressure washer blasts away the concrete in my driveway if I'm not careful. It could probably even remove the stink from a politician, if I could stand being close enough to one to try it.

You seem a bit belligerent for someone looking for help. Nevertheless, I think I found just what you need:

CHEAP driveway paint

Yeah, I think you are right, there are some real rip offs.
A while back I bought some quick drying stain block spray to cover some watermarks on a ceiling (I'd re-roofed and was now decorating).
Did it stop the stains bleeding back through? Of course not.
So then I used some old gloss paint I had lying around, ok it took a day to dry, but did it work? Yes!
I think they get all the left over dregs and put it in a fancy tin and sell it at an inflated price to gullible customers.

I had exactly the same experience, I used a stain block aerosol which did not work. I talked to a builder who said just use some vinyl paint, that worked.

It is usual that strains do not go away but surface coat will yield, particularly those areas which receive abrasion (human or machine activities) will discolor pretty fast. I would go for a grinding stone attachment to my portable drill machine, readily available from local hardware store and is inexpensive.

Another thing i have to go get and purchase[even if it is cheap] . And your way sounds like a lot more time and noise to scratch up drive.Lets see I'd need masks and earplugs Then I'd need to cover up scratches? My way took 5 minutes, was very Quiot, and i could care less if color fades because it will still be all 1 color. Is this the owner of store or another employee?lol thanks for input though.

Maybe you should try KrisDelTM virtual driveway paint as used by Rene Descarte.
You stare at the small KrisDel colour swatch and then you think your driveway is that colour.

Re: Tired of being ripped off or scammed!

Steps

1. clean from dust and grease

2. Apply thin layer, let dry.

3. Apply another thin layer, let dry.

4. Apply thicker layer, let dry.

5. Hit it with fat layer, let dry.

Preparation is everything. The old masters worked like that and had paint made by hand not the much better standard house paint.

Depending on the thinner the paint is based on you should have it ready to tread on in a couple of days. This way flaking will be avoided. I would paint a mural on your driveway but my hourly rate will give you a hart attack if the price of floor paint already makes you faint.

Go for it, no harm done. Always keep a bit in reserve for wear and tear though, one never knows.

Send us a pick when your ready, Ky.

I would of tried that but its to late. I just skipped to the fat coatBut so far so good,......lets see what it looks like after winterI'd like to have a mural on it ,that would be cool. I thought green for a min., but figured i'd pull into the yard instead of the driveway!

Maybe something like this.

Sorry, these were sent to me one day and no name of the artist. Painting is as much a science as it is to put a washer in a screw assembly. Nuts want to stay were washers are, especially the split ones.

This guy uses chalk. What you see is not what you get.

Good luck, Ky.

Paint sticks best to areas where you don't want it.

If you intentionally put the cheap paint on your driveway, it will peel off.

The original, unintended spots will remain until the end of time.

I can't explain why this is, it's just a cosmic truth.

"I can't explain why this is, it's just a cosmic truth."

Sort of like the probability of jam covered toast landing on the floor jam-side-up varying inversely with the price of the carpeting.

Sort of, but not exactly, not to sound anal retentive, but at least that can be explained by the jam side being heavier.

Can you tell it's a rainy no work day for me?

Asphalt sealants are the worst thing to put on your driveway. They shorten the life of it. They will reduce the flexibility of the asphalt mix making them more prone to cracking cracking leads to water intrusion which leads to my cracking. The cycle goes on.

I've had my driveway done 12 years ago with no cracks, stains, or ruts. It's called getting it done the correct way the first time. It looks like when I put it down the first time, except it's a lighter grey. I figure I have at least another 15-25 years left in it. Three of my neighbors all had there driveways put in all had sealants put on all have cracks I figure in five years they will be replacing theres

I painted my driveway about 12 years ago with epoxy paint, market for the same, and don't remember it being much more than some other household enamel paints. Still hanging in there nicely.

I am reminded of...

Back in the early '60s, my Dad had a '47 Ford pickup. The paint job was horrible and missing in several places, so he went through the entire house, mixed together all the enamel he found, and painted the truck... PINK!!

I am wondering what a pink driveway would look like.
