In the good old DOS days one only had to intercept the keyboard key-press interrupt and insert a beep in there (or just change the settings to activate it)

The same function would be available in Windows 7 but access to it may be limited.

I just checked in ny Windows 7 and the old dos Debug is available.

With Debug you can do this with a few lines of code.

I did not use it for a long time and completely forgot the detail. I will scan my old disks and maybe could help you.

I don't know about the newer versions of Windows, but here's how you can do it in Windows XP.

Go to Control Panel. Click on Accessability Options. Then Accessabilty Options again (it's another icon). Then on the Keyboard tab where it says "FilterKeys" check the box labeled "Use FilterKeys". Next to that box there is a "Settings" button - click on it. Where it now says "Filter options" select "Ignore repeated keystrokes". And just below that under Notification check the box "Beep when keys pressed or accepted".

That should do the trick. Worked here, anyway. There is probably something similar in Windows Vista & 7.

I wonder if anyone has written an app that would turn a full keyboard into an extend-range piano, say by assigning a .wav file to each key. (Then you could also back-translate musical compositions to see what occult verbal messages they contain.)

I just tried it!

Interestingly enough, the US Declaration of Independence when typed out actually plays the theme music to "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure".

An eerie prescience by Jefferson? Or is there some darker, deeper meaning?

for the first part, no, I haven't heard of it, but it is easy to do in vb... even I can do that.

for the second part... do you have to un-type your composition?

on another note.. back in the late 90's, there used to be this fun app called shittalker... and it was a blast.. just type in your text, and it uses computerspeak to talk to you... it was hilarious. (disregard the abuse it gives when unzipping lol)

If you use a Dvorak keyboard, do you get the New World Symphony?
